1/144 English Electric Lightning F.53

Voici un modèle qui m'a demandé pas mal de travail, notamment de recherche.

Lorsque j'ai acheté ce Lightning (fabriqué par Diverse Images) dans le cadre d'un lot, j'ai recherché une décoration un peu originale, changeant des 4 autres de la RAF que j'avais déjà (trois Lightning F.1A et un Lightning F.6).

Et puis, je me suis dit que je pourrais peut être le présenter avec les bidons supplémentaires sur les ailes, comme le kit Revell de Lightning F.53.

Et j'ai cherché, cherché une photo d'un Lightning de la RSAF avec les réservoirs sur les ailes (en me demandant même si Revell n'avait pas fait une autre erreur, après celle de proposer ce kit avec une perche de ravitaillement alors que les Saoudiens n'en avaient pas voulu d'autant qu'ils n'avaient pas de ravitailleurs.....).

Puis grâce au forum KG144, j'ai eu l'explication de l'absence de toute photo : en fait, les F.53 Saoudiens n'ont eu les réservoirs additionnels que pendant leur convoyage entre le Royaume Uni et l'Arabie Saoudite.

Voici donc, après l'avoir intégralement repeint, un English Electric Lightning F.53 de la Royal Saudi Air Force, avec ses marquages propres au convoyage (il deviendra le 207 comme sur la photo originale) et ses réservoirs additionnels pour ce voyage.

When I bought this Lightning (made by Diverse Images) as part of a bundle, I was looking for a slightly original decoration, changing from the 4 other RAF ones I already had (three Lightning F.1A and one Lightning F.6).

And then I thought that maybe I could present it with the extra tanks on the wings, like the Revell Lightning F.53 kit.

And I searched and searched for a picture of an RSAF Lightning with the tanks on the wings (and even wondered if Revell had made an other mistake, after as offering this kit with a refuelling boom when the Saudis didn't want one, especially since they didn't have refuellers.....).

Then, thanks to the KG144 forum, I got the explanation for the absence of any photo: in fact, the Saudi F.53s only had the additional tanks during their convoying between the UK and Saudi Arabia.

So here it is, after having been completely repainted,after having been completely repainted, an English Electric Lightning F.53 of the Royal Saudi Air Force, with its own convoy markings (it will become 207 as in the original photo) and its additional tanks for this trip.
