1/144 Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II Warthog - by S14 Aviation Fighters Series

Je ne pouvais pas trouver meilleure photo pour annoncer sa venue.
Car, oui, après avoir eu droit à une photo des prototypes, le modèle définitif vient d'arriver directement du Japon, pays de son fabricant, la Société S14.
Il est magnifique, avec une grande finesse de détails, et fourni avec un certain nombre d'armements à rajouter sous les ailes, en plus de celles déjà fixées.
C'est vraiment du grand grand boulot pour du 1/144.
Du coup, je ne sais pas si je vais conserver celui que j'avais réalisé il y a quelques années, beaucoup plus rustique (voir ici).


I could not find better photo to announce its coming.
Because, yes, having been entitled to a photo of the prototypes, the final model has just arrived directly from Japan, country of its manufacturer, the Company S14.
It is beautiful, with very fine details, and provided with a number of weapons to add, in addition to those already fixed.
It's really great great job for 1/144.
So, I do not know if I will keep the one I made a few years ago, much more rustic (see here).

1/144 Animals - Part 1

Pas de messages ces prochains jours pour cause de déplacement à Londres, où j’espère bien voir le Supermarine S6B au Science Museum, avant de monter le kit que j’ai trouvé l’été dernier (voir ici).

En attendant, une fois n’est pas coutume, un peu de philosophie ?
Non, je plaisante, ou presque…
Pourquoi les fabricants ont le besoin de donner des noms d’animaux à leurs avions alors que la comparaison entre les deux est pour le moins surprenante…

La traduction littérale de Bearcat, en inversant les mots pour les traductions Anglais-Français, donne le nom d'un fromage de la région Champagne-Ardennes, le Chaource.

A particularity : the literal translation of Bearcat also gives the name of a cheese from the Champagne-Ardenne region.

Bear = Ours and Cat = Chat, and then reverse the order of words as usual for translating English to French : Bearcat = Chat Ours = the name of Chaource cheese (with a different spelling but the same pronunciation).

1/144 Fairchild A-10 Warthog

Pour faire un A-10 Warthog au 1/144 en métal, puisqu'ils n'existent qu'en kits plastiques ou en gashapon, j'ai acheté un modèle de chez Modelpower au 1/140, un peu plus grand, que j'ai démonté pour :
- réduire la longueur du fuselage
- couper les bouts des ailes incurvés
- réduire les ailes en longueur et en largeur,
Toutes ces opérations ont été assez difficiles car le modèle n'est pas en white metal ou pewter, mais en zamac, beaucoup plus dur.
- recoller les bouts d'ailes,
- réduire la queue (c'était plus facile car elle est en plastique),
- enlever les réacteurs pour les remplacer par ceux du modèle plastique Revell,
- remplacer les carénages des trains d'atterrissage sous les ailes avec ceux du modèle Revell, après les avoir désépaissis et percer pour installer celui à sous l'avant du fuselage,
- peindre et mettre les decals.


To make an 1/144 scale A-10 Warthog in metal, while there are only plastic kits or gashapon, I bought a model from Modelpower in 1/140 scale, a little bigger, that I disassembled for :
- reduce the length of the fuselage,
- cut the curved wingtips,
- reduce the wings in length and width,
All these operations were quite difficult because the model is not in white metal or pewter, but in zamac, much harder.
- stick back the wingtips,
- reduce the tail (it was easier because it is plastic),
- remove the reactors and replace them with those of Revell plastic kit,
- replace the landing gear fairings under the wings with those from Revell kit, after having thinnef, and drill to install the principal landing gear below nose,
- paint and put decals.
