1/144 Boeing HC.1 Chinook

Il y a quelques années, j'ai présenté un modèle en métal de CH-47 Chinook dans sa version britannique, provenant du fabricant de jouets Maisto, et dont les dimensions correspondaient à très peu de choses près à un modèle au 1/144 (voir ici).

Mais après ces vérifications de dimensions, j'ai eu l'occasion d'en acheter un second, qui est resté près d'une dizaine d'années dans la réserve....

Depuis l'achat, j'avais l'idée de le décorer aux couleurs d'un hélicoptère de la Guerre du Golfe, enfin, la première, puisque elles sont numérotées.....

Néanmoins j'hésitais, car les livrées n'étaient pas des plus originales...., même s'il y en avait une que je trouvais très attrayante mais que je considérais au delà de mes capacités de peintre....

Jusqu'à ces derniers jours.

Le seul problème a été de bien différencier le camouflage apparaissant sur de nombreuses photos de l'hélicoptère après le retour en Grande Bretagne, modifié notamment pour l'emplacement des codes d'appareil, par rapport à celui initial porté pendant la Guerre du Golf et qui ne figure que sur très peu de photos.

Sur l'hélicoptère lui-même, je n'ai modifié que les trains d'atterrissage comme le premier et jai changé les moteurs pour en mettre avec les filtres à sable provenant de Retrokit.

Voici donc le Boeing Chinook HC.1 immatriculé ZA712 et sa livrée pour le moins singulière, et tout sauf chatoyante..

A few years ago, I presented a metal model of the British version of the CH-47 Chinook, from the toy manufacturer Maisto, whose dimensions corresponded very closely to a 1/144 model (see here).

But after these dimensional checks, I had the opportunity to buy a second one, which remained in stash for nearly ten years....

Since buying it, I'd been thinking of decorating it with the colors of a Gulf War helicopter, or rather, the first one, since they're numbered.....

However I was hesitant, because the liveries were not the most original..., although there was one that I found very attractive but which I considered beyond my painting abilities....

Until these last few days.

The only problem was to differentiate the camouflage appearing on many photos of the helicopter after its return to Great Britain, modified in particular for the location of the aircraft codes, from the initial camouflage worn during the Gulf War, which appears on only very few photos.

On the helicopter itself, I only modified the landing gear like the first one and changed the engines to put them with the sand filters from Retrokit.

Here is the Boeing Chinook HC.1 registered ZA712 and its livery, which is, to say the least, unusual and anything but shimmering.

Cela fait des années que parmi les photos de l'économiseur d'écran de mon ordinateur, j'ai cette photo des 4 hélicoptères double rotor de la famille Piasecki, devenue Vertol puis Boeing....


For years, among the photos of my computer's screensaver, I have this photo of the 4 double-rotor helicopters of the Piasecki family, which became Vertol and then Boeing....

Et il y a quelques jours à peine, en rangeant le CH-46 dans la vitrine avec ses petits copains..., je me suis aperçu que j'avais ces 4 hélicoptères de la photo au 1/144.
Alors je ne résiste pas à vous présenter ces 4 double rotors de ce même constructeur sous des noms différents :


And just a few days ago, when I stored the Ch-46 in the showcase with its little friends..., I realized that I had these 4 helicopters of the picture at 1/144.

1/144 Boeing HC.1 Chinook - by Maisto

Après les déconvenues liées aux mesures erronées de certains modèles, relatées dans un précédent post, il y a quand même, parfois, de bonnes surprises.

En accompagnant ma chère et tendre épouse pour faire des courses dans un supermarché d'un coin reculé de la campagne (vous avez reconnu mon côté aventurier...), j'ai regardé par pur hasard les quelques jouets qui s'y trouvaient.

Et pour une fois, il y avait quelques modèles d'avions.
Et au milieu de modèles dont la seule référence d'échelle est d'entrer dans la même boîte, mon regard a été attiré par un hélicoptère Chinook.
Je ne saurais pas dire quoi, mais il y avait quelque chose qui m'attirait...

Ma chère et tendre a tenté de me dissuader de l'acheter mais, courageux comme je suis, j'ai tenu bon et je l'ai glissé au milieu de la lessive et autre jus de fruits (oui, j'en bois aussi...)

Arrivé chez moi, je me suis précipité sur des plans pour vérifier les côtes, et j'ai commandé un kit pour éventuellement changer quelques pièces si le modèle était utilisable.

Et là, bonne surprise, ce modèle de la marque Maisto est parfaitement conforme (à 1 ou 2 mm sur la longueur).
Il restait l'examen du volume, à faire avec la maquette plastique reçue entre-temps.
Tout à fait conforme, y compris pour les pales, comme confirmé par les photos ci-dessous.
Les seules difficultés sont la gravure un peu trop prononcée.
J'ai simplement refait les trains avant avec ceux du kit plastique et par flemme, je l'avoue, simplement rectifié ceux de l'arrière.


After the disappointments due to erroneous measurements of some models, reported in a previous post, there is still, sometimes, good surprises.

Accompanying my dear and loving wife for shopping in a supermarket of a remote corner of the countryside (you recognized my adventurous side...), I looked by chance the few toys that were there.

And for once, there were some aircraft models.
And in the middle of models whose only reference scale is getting into the same box, my glance was attracted by a Chinook helicopter.
I could not say what, but there was something that attracted me...

My dear and loving tried to dissuade me from buying it, but brave as I am, I held on and I slipped in the middle of detergent and other fruit juices (yes, I drink it too. ..)

Back home, I rushed on plans to verify measurements, and I ordered a plastic kit to possibly change some parts if the model was usable.

And then, good surprise, this model of the brand Maisto is fully in line (to 1 or 2 mm in length).
It remained to check the volume, with the plastic model received meantime.
Entirely conform, including the blades, as confirmed by the photos below.
The only difficulties are the engraving a bit too pronounced.
I simply remakes forward landing gears with those of plastic kit and through lazy, I admit, simply rectified the rear ones.

Et voici, pour un prix très modique, un Boeing HC.1 Chinook (la version anglaise du CH-47), aux couleurs de la RAF alors qu'il stationnait aux Iles Malouines, mais après la guerre.

On sait que c'est après la guerre à cause du changement de lettre d'identification mais surtout du dessin d'un pingouin Rockhopper, habitant de ces îles.

Un exemple avec le Chinook ZA721 après les combats, avec un code à une seule lettre, et le dessin du Rockhopper.

We know that it is after the war because the identification letter changed but mostly due to the drawing of a Rockhopper penguin, inhabitant of these islands.
