1/144 Vickers Valiant - by Corgi

After all these "adventures", what if we went back a bit to the "fundamentals", ie the collection...?
By the way, this airplane was missing from my collection, because it left two other models virtually orphaned.
You guessed, it's the 3rd of the V-Bombers.
After Handley Page Victor (see here) and Avro Vulcan (see there), here is the third, also realized by Corgi in the markings of Operation Grapple (British nuclear tests in the Pacific), the Vickers Valiant, who did not have the same longevity as the other two.

1/144 "Little Friends" - by Corgi

The third and last Corgi set at 1/144, also found at the bottom of a box, the set "Little Friends" representing USAAF escort aircraft, the North American P-51D Mustang, in the colors of ace Bud Anderson of the 357th Fighter Group and Republic P-47D Thunderbolt in the colors of ace David Shilling of the 56th Fighter Group.

1/144 Battle of Britain Aces - by Corgi

As indicated in the previous message, the works are suspended.
That is to say, the works on the aircraft models, and not the works of my flat.
This is the state of the collection....

But, what is good when we tidy up his collection in boxes, it is that we find certain models, a little lost, abandoned.

It is the case of this set, produced by Corgi a few years ago along with the set of Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (see here), and which represents the two aircrafts of two of the greatest British aces of the Second World War :
- the Hawker Hurricane Mk.I of Robert Stanford Tuck, 27 confirmed victories, in the 257 Sqn. markings.
- the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIA of Douglas Bader who won around thirty victories, among which 22 confirmed, while he fought amputee of two legs after an accident before the war, in the Tangmere Wing markings.

A bientôt !

When summer comes...
When summer comes, the holidays are on the horizon, and the projects also...
Yes, again a project.
As if I had not enough and if I had not enough work.

In the framework of tidying up my collection for the works of my home, I found a model of Wright Flyer, at 1/144, the plane of the first powered and controlled flight.
It is therefore a vital model to any respectable collection except that, it is made of plastic...

And then, suddenly, I remembered.
Corgi produced a Wright Flyer in the Showcase series, without scale except that which consists to bring the model into the box.
So I bought it to check if I could not use it to make a model at 1/144.

Compared to the plastic model, which is to the right measures, the Corgi model is much larger but it is a good basis, including the wings because they are very thin (and thinner than the plastic model).
It suffices (but it will do it, that's the problem with ideas...) to reduce the wings in length and width, as well as front and rear control surfaces.
Then, reimplant the mats, and resize the plastic ones of front and rear structures of the Corgi model.

Easy peasy, no ?
Iwill tell you about them after the holidays. See you soon.

1/144 Westland Sea King - Part 2

After some setbacks encountered during the paint (see previous post), here is the Westland Sea King at 1/144 fully finished after posing the decals of the Sweet kit.

1/144 Westland Sea King - Part 1

You remember that at the shop of the Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovilton, I found a Westland Sea King metal model corresponding to the 1/144, on which I just put some decals from the Sweet model kit to personalize it (see here).

Of course, I wanted to decorate another model on the same basis.

But this time, I wanted to present it on its landing gears.

The Corgi model being designed to be presented on a stand, it has retracted undercarriages and only the wheels are partially exposed.

It was thus necessary to remove them, after protecting the model, to set up the landing gears of the Sweet model kit which must be refined.

Then, it was the step of painting, for which I had to dismantle the cockpit, to be able to paint inside the cabin and remove the original yellow color.

Setting up landing gears of the Sweet model.

And of course, having almost finished painting and begun to put decals, I realized as compared with the SAR version of the Corgi model, that  it was necessary to remove :
- a window to one side,
- the two protuberant rear portholes.

This is the risk when you are febrile...

A suivre.

To follow.

1/144 Vickers Viscount - by Corgi

I could not resist.

Besides, I can never resist...

So I bought this Vickers Viscount, produced by Corgi, not only because I find its livery really beautiful with red wings, but also to accompany the bus in the colors of BEA (British European Airways), made by Oxford Diecast.

If I begin to buy or make aircraft models just to accompany a vehicle, that is not a good start...

1/144 Short Sunderland Boac - by Corgi

During the war, the airline company BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation) received 6 Short Stirling, like the one here made by Corgi at 1/144, used as postal and cargo aircraft, mainly for connections from England to Africa and India.
