Alors, pour essayer de faire simple, en 1941, en Irak alors sous mandat britannique, l'ex premier ministre Rachid Ali, pro-allemand mais surtout anti-britannique, a fomenté un coup d'Etat pour renverser le régent en place, libérer le pays de la tutelle britannique et nationaliser la production de pétrole.
Dès son arrivée au pouvoir, Rachid Ali a empêché les Britanniques d'utiliser le port de Bassorah, essentiel pour le materiel provenant des USA, a détourné l'approvisionnement de pétrole vers la Palestine, essentiel pour la VIIIème armée d'Egypte, pour le diriger vers la Syrie alors sous contrôle du Gouvernement de Vichy, pro-allemand, et signé un accord secret avec l'Axe pour accorder des facilités aux Italo-Allemands, etc.
Dans le cadre des combats entre Britanniques et Irakiens, ces derniers ont demandé l'aide des allemands qui ont envoyé une force aérienne, dénommée Fliegerführer Irak, composée essentiellement de Messerschmitt Me 110, Heinkel He 111 et Junkers Ju 52.
Il est à noter que, pour des raisons politiques, sur tous les avions, tant allemands qu'italiens, les marques d'identification et de nationalité ont été effacées pour être remplacées par les marquages irakiens.
Malgré cette aide, puis celle tardive des italiens, les iraquo-allemands n'ont pu résister aux troupes britanniques, également par manque de soutien de la part de Hitler, dont les regards étaient déjà tournés vers l'Union Soviétique et l'opération Barbarossa.

J'ai jeté mon dévolu sur un Messerschmitt 110 car c'est le type d'avion sur lequel il y avait le plus d'informations, en particulier sur la décoration, bien qu'il y ait discussion sur le fait de savoir s'ils avaient la décoration Afrique du Nord ou Balkans.
J'ai finalement choisi le camouflage "Balkans" (RLM 76, 74 et 75) car l'escadrille qui a fourni l'essentiel des Messerschmitt 110 était la ZG76, qui opérait dans cette zone de combats.
Et puis, j'ai bien aimé la gueule de requin de cette escadrille.
