Vacances au Musée - Holidays at the Museum

Why buying a N scale caravan at the Model Railway Festival in London ?
What relationship with airplanes and what to use on an air base?

Réponse : Les vacances !!!

Answer :  Holidays !!!

Ah yes, no post for some time (except perhaps for specific topics) due to holidays that lay ahead very busy :

  • Discuter avec des pilotes chevronnés… - Talk with experienced pilots...

  • Rencontrer des pilotes plus jeunes… - Meet younger pilots...

- Exchanging viewpoints with spotters....

  • Suivre des stages de perfectionnement…. - Attend advanced training courses....

  • Et aller sur la plage… - And go to the beach...

Okay, also some culture with museum visits :

Some work too, as seen in the workshop, there are many models to finish, and there are all the others to start.

1/144 Fokker E.III

Another Fokker E.III, this time from a 1/144 Reviresco kit.
The wings are thinner than the Skytrex kit, and are not one piece with the fuselage, which means that they tend to sag.
It would put the rigging ont the model as the real...
This Fokker E.III is in the colors of Turkey, an ally of Germany during the First World War, which was equipped by Germans aircraft and their pilots for fighting against the British in the Middle East.

1/144 De Havilland Mosquito FB.VI - by Diverse Images

1/144 Short Sunderland - by Corgi

During the summer season, go boating ?
Yes, but with wings !
The Short Sunderland, here produced by Corgi at 1:144, is a big piece, with its impressive boat hull, huge inside, which can be visited at the RAF Museum in Hendon (one can easily imagine how it could be used to repatriate soldiers during the evacuation of the island of Crete with crew of 10, each Sunderland carried 80 soldiers ...).

Upstairs, the position of the gunners and in the middle at the bottom, the cockpit

Confortable...
Cosy...

Vers la tourelle de queue
Towards the tail turret

This flying-boat will be used on all the seas during the second world war, and even into the 60s.
Its defensive armament, 18 machine guns, will be nicknamed "Porcupine" by German pilots.

Yeovilton Air show

To go to an airshow in England, the first thing to consider is the garment, and to respect the Dress Code.
So I made a rigorous choice with this shirt ...

After that, it was a disaster : great weather, great location along the runway, the bar nearby, and at the Museum Shop, I found something that looks very promising, that I will present you soon.
But, I forgot the camera ...
A high quality program : the Red Arrows, a Hurricane and Buchon (Messerschmitt 109 built in Spain), a Sea Fury, a Skyraider, the Jordan aerobatic patrol, a P-51 Mustang, a Gripen, a F-16 Falcon, a freestyle festival with a Chinook (impressive), a Typhoon, etc... and of course, helicopters of the Royal Navy : Lynx, Wildcat (Super Lynx) and Merlin, to finish with the spectacle of commandos and their King.
Well, spite of everything a few photos, including the Fairey Swordfish in flight, and movies of the Avro Vulcan and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Avro Lancaster.

Even the sailors suffered from the heat !

Yeovilton Air Day + 1/144 Avro Vulcan - by Corgi

Pas de post ces prochains jours !!!!
Oui, encore...!

No post in the coming days !!!!
Yes, again...!
This time, it's to go to the RNAS (Royal Naval Air Station) Yeovilton Air Day (see website here)

It is on this still active air base, called HMS Heron , where the Fleet Air Arm Museum established and a great air show takes place every year.

And hoping it to do a sufficiently good weather, to see the flight of an airplane, perhaps, for its last year : the Avro Vulcan of the association Vulcan To The Sky (see its website here).
One last point : for once, it's not for me that we go to this show.
No, it's for my wife, who loves the Vulcan.
Yes, yes, it's true...!

Vulcan XH558

Meanwhile a specimen of this fabulous aircraft with extraordinary lines, produced by Corgi at 1/144 in its version of nuclear bomber during the Cold War, with its white paint "anti-flash."

Sorry, I did not found much larger photo of the original model.
