1/144 Westland Sea King - Part 2

Après les quelques déboires rencontrés au moment de la peinture (voir le précédent message), voici le Westland Sea King au 1/144 entièrement terminé après la pose des décalques du kit Sweet.


After some setbacks encountered during the paint (see previous post), here is the Westland Sea King at 1/144 fully finished after posing the decals of the Sweet kit.

1/144 Westland Sea King - Part 1

Vous vous rappelez qu'à la boutique du musée de la Fleet Air Arm à Yeovilton, j’ai trouvé un modèle en métal de Westland Sea King correspondant à du 1/144, sur lequel j’ai juste posé quelques décalques du modèle Sweet pour le personnaliser (voir ici).

Bien entendu, j'ai eu envie de décorer un autre modèle sur la même base.

Mais cette fois-ci, j'ai voulu le présenter sur son train d’atterrissage.

Le modèle Corgi étant prévu pour être présenté sur un socle, il a les trains d’atterrissage rentrés, et seules les roues sont partiellement apparentes.


You remember that at the shop of the Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovilton, I found a Westland Sea King metal model corresponding to the 1/144, on which I just put some decals from the Sweet model kit to personalize it (see here).

Of course, I wanted to decorate another model on the same basis.

But this time, I wanted to present it on its landing gears.

The Corgi model being designed to be presented on a stand, it has retracted undercarriages and only the wheels are partially exposed.

Il a donc fallu les supprimer, après avoir protégé le modèle, pour mettre en place les trains d’atterrissage du modèle Sweet qui ont dû être affinés.

It was thus necessary to remove them, after protecting the model, to set up the landing gears of the Sweet model kit which must be refined.

Puis, cela a été l’étape de la peinture, pour laquelle il a fallu démonter le cockpit, pour pouvoir peindre à l’intérieur de la cabine de pilotage et supprimer la couleur jaune initiale.

Then, it was the step of painting, for which I had to dismantle the cockpit, to be able to paint inside the cabin and remove the original yellow color.

Et bien sûr, ayant pratiquement terminé la peinture et commencé à poser les décalques, je me suis aperçu que par rapport à la version SAR du modèle Corgi, il fallait supprimer  :
- une fenêtre sur un des côtés,
- les 2 hublots protubérants arrière.

C'est le risque quand on est fébrile...


And of course, having almost finished painting and begun to put decals, I realized as compared with the SAR version of the Corgi model,that  it was necessary to remove :
- a window to one side,
- the two protuberant rear portholes.

This is the risk when you are febrile...

1/144 Westland Sea King

Un été plein de bonnes surprises.
La première, comme annoncé dans le post concernant le Yeovilton Air Show, a été la visite de la boutique du Musée.
J’y ai trouvé un Westland Sea King dans la série des Corgi Showcase.

A summer full of surprises.
The first, as stated in the post about the Yeovilton Air Show, was the visit of the Museum Shop.
There I found a Westland Sea King in the Corgi Showcase series.

L’esprit du « Showcase » est que chaque modèle rentre dans la même boîte, sans considération de taille ou d’échelle : un Concorde a la même boîte qu’un Avro Lancaster, ou comme illustré ci-dessous, un Eurofighter et un Spitfire.

The spirit of "Showcase" is that each model comes in the same box, regardless of size or scale : a Concorde has the same box as an Avro Lancaster, or as shown below, an Eurofighter and a Spitfire.

Il y a quelques années, j’avais acheté un Westland Wessex qui semblait proche, mais en réalité bien plus gros qu’un modèle au 1/144.
Comme ces modèles sont en Zamac, très dur, il est difficile de faire des rectifications.
Mais là, j’ai eu de la chance : le Sea King semblait à première vue assez proche et, dès notre retour, j’ai vérifié avec la maquette Sweet que j’avais achetée en prévision de m’en servir de moule pour un diecast.
Et bingo : le modèle Corgi est vraiment au 1/144, ou à un demi-millimètre en trop sur le corps du fuselage….

A few years ago, I bought a Westland Wessex who seemed close, but in reality much larger than a model in 1/144.
As these models are made with Zamac, very strong, it is difficult to make adjustments.
But then, I was lucky : the Sea King seemed at first sight close enough and, upon our return at home, I checked with the Sweet model I bought in anticipation of using it as a mold for a diecast.
And bingo: the Corgi model is really 1/144, or half a millimeter too much on the body of the fuselage....

Et voilà le résultat après avoir posé quelques décalques du modèle Sweet pour l’individualiser.

Et quelle sera la suite ?
Et bien je vais en acheter d'autres pour les redécorer complètement et les présenter non pas sur un socle mais avec les roues du modèle Sweet….

And what comes next ?
Well, I'll buy some for completely redecorate them and present it not on a pedestal, but with the wheels of the Sweet model....
