- la bombe Grand Slam de 10 tonnes, conçue également pour pénétrer le sol et provoquer un mini séisme capable de détruire les installations alentour.
After conceiving the geodesic structure of the Vickers Wellington bomber (see here) and the anti-dam bouncing bomb Upkeep used by Dam Busters of 617 Squadron (see there), the prolific engineer Barnes Wallis also created :
- the 5 tons Tallboy bomb, able to penetrate the ground before exploding, used against bunkers, railway tunnels and also against the battleship Tirpitz (Paravane Operation),
- the 10 tons Grand Slam bomb, also conceived to penetrate the soil and cause a mini earthquake capable of destroying the surrounding facilities.
Présenté ici, le bombardier Avro Lancaster, réalisé par Diverse Images au 1/144, spécialement modifié pour pouvoir emporter la bombe Grand Slam, dans une livrée claire peu habituelle, sans le dessous noir des bombardiers de nuit.
L’escadrille de bombardement de précision qu’est devenu le 617 Squadron a participé à la destruction de viaducs, ponts et d’abris pour sous-marins avec cette bombe Grand Slam.
Presented here, the Avro Lancaster bomber, made by Diverse Images at 1/144, specially modified to carry the Grand Slam bomb, in an unusual daylight livery, without the black underside of night bombers.
The precision bombing squadron that became the 617 Squadron took part in the destruction of viaducts, bridges and shelters for submarines with this Grand Slam bomb.
