1/144 Republic P-47 Thunderbolt - by Chaubet

Retour au classicisme avec ce Republic P-47 Thunderbolt au 1/144 réalisé par M. Chaubet, que j'ai trouvé sur le second marché.
Encore un P-47 direz-vous....
Oui, mais.... (une réponse bien française....😀) ce qui est intéressant c'est qu'il n'est pas peint mais est simplement en métal naturel poli.
Je n'ai pas trouvé de photo du vrai modèle, mais seulement du même avion, accidenté avec un autre pilote, au vu du nose art différent.

Another P-47 you say....
Yes, but.... (a very French answer....😀) what is interesting is that it is not painted but is simply natural polished metal.
I did not find a photo of the real model, but only of the same plane, crashed with a other pilot, given the different nose art.

1/144 Vickers Wellington

Il y a quelques années déjà que j'ai acheté sur le second marché ce Vickers Wellington fabriqué par Diverse Images au 1/144 (même si j'en avais déjà deux....).

Je l'ai laissé traîné dans un tiroir dans l'attente de lui trouver une livrée sympa, mais elles sont la plupart limitées au camouflage du Bomber Command.
Sauf que, finalement, après mure réflexion, et même si je n'aime pas trop peindre le blanc, je me suis décidé à le repeindre aux couleurs d'un avion du Coastal Command.


Some years ago I bought on the secondary market this Vickers Wellington manufactured by Diverse Images at 1/144 (although I had already two ....)

I left it in a drawer while waiting to find a nice livery, but they are mostly limited to the camouflage of the Bomber Command.
Except that, finally, after much thought, and even if I don't like to paint the white too much, I decided to repaint it in the colors of a Coastal Command aircraft.

1/144 Saab J 29 Tunnan

Premier avion à réaction construit par Saab après la seconde guerre mondiale, le Saab Tunnan bien que ressemblant à un tonneau (son nom) était aussi manœuvrant que le F-86 Sabre....

Ce modèle, créé à partir du kit en résine Miniwing, fait partie du moule entier commandé à M. Chaubet il y a quelque temps déjà (voir ici) et a été un vrai plaisir à faire (quand c'est moi qui fait le moule, je dois ébarber pendant des heures...., c'est trop injuste.....😢)


First jet plane built by Saab after the Second World War, the Saab Tunnan although resembling a barrel (its name) was as maneuvering as the F-86 Sabre....

This model, created from the Miniwing resin kit, is part of the whole mold ordered from Mr. Chaubet some time ago (see here) and was a real pleasure to do (when it's me who makes the mold, I have to deburr for hours...., it's too unfair..... 😢)

1/144 Bugatti 100P

Un avion extraordinaire.
Voilà comment on pourrait définir cet avion de course, tellement futuriste, alors que conçu à la fin des années 30 par le fabricant de voitures Ettore Bugatti et l'ingénieur Louis de Monge.

Cet avion était équipé de deux moteurs Bugatti, montés l'un derrière l'autre, mais décalés l'un à droite et l'autre à gauche, les arbres de transmission passant de chaque côté du pilote.


An extraordinary plane.
This is how we could define this racing aircraft, so futuristic, while designed in the late 1930s by the car manufacturer Ettore Bugatti and the engineer Louis de Monge.

This aircraft was equipped with two Bugatti engines, mounted one behind the other, but offset one to the right and the other to the left, the transmission shafts passing on each side of the pilot.

Prévu pour participer à la course de vitesse pure de la Coupe Deutsch de la Meurthe, cet avion n'a jamais volé du fait de l'arrivée de la Seconde Guerre mondiale pendant laquelle il a été démonté et caché.


Scheduled to participate in the pure speed race of the Deutsch de la Meurthe Cup, this plane never flew due to the arrival of the Second World War during which it was dismantled and hidden.

Après la guerre, l'avion a été acheté par un américain qui voulait seulement récupérer les moteurs pour des courses automobiles.
Ce qui reste de l'avion, fuselage et ailes, est maintenant exposé au EAA Aviation Museum à Oshkosh, aux USA.

Toujours aux USA, une réplique de cet avion a été construite et a volé en août 2015, mais l'avion s'est écrasé lors du 3ème vol en 2016, tuant son pilote.

On peut différencier facilement l'original de cette réplique qui comporte une roue de queue escamotable.


After the war, the plane was bought by an American who only wanted to recover the engines for motor racing.
What remains of the aircraft, fuselage and wings, is now on display at the EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh, USA.

Also in the USA, a replica of this plane was built and flew in August 2015, but the plane crashed on the 3rd flight in 2016, killing its pilot.

We can easily differentiate the original from this replica which has a retractable tail wheel.

Pour réaliser ce modèle que j'ai moulé et coulé (voir le modèle sorti du moule ici), j'ai utilisé un modèle en impression 3D provenant de Shapeways (vendu sans trains ni hélices) et un kit de Dameya (extrêmement fin, même un peu trop) pour les trains d'atterrissage.


To make this model that I molded and cast (see the model out of the mold here), I used a 3D printing model from Shapeways (sold without undercarriage or propellers) and a Dameya kit (extremely thin, even a little too much) for the landing gear.

Et voici donc, au 1/144, et en métal, un exemplaire unique de cet avion tout aussi unique, pour le moins curieux et futuriste, le Bugatti 100P.


And so here, in 1/144, and in metal, is a unique copy of this equally unique, curious and futuristic aircraft to say the least, the Bugatti 100P.

1/144 Douglas TBD Devastator

Après quelques déplacements en pleine épidémie de Coronavirus, un petit retour aux "fondamentaux" s'impose....
Donc, retour à la collection avec un Douglas Tbd Devastator, curieusement décoré.

J'ai acheté ce modèle d'origine Chaubet, dont j'ai déjà un exemplaire (voir ici), sur le second marché sans trop penser à ce que j'allais en faire...
Et quand la question s'est posée, je me suis rendu compte que je n'avais pas trop envie de le décorer avec la livrée américaine de neutralité d'avant guerre : fuselage alu ou gris clair et ailes jaune chrome.

Alors, j'ai cherché, cherché, jusqu'à trouver des photos de Devastator ayant fait l'objet d'essais de camouflage, dont on ne sait pas s'ils ont été mis en oeuvre sur des avions de première ligne, mais qui n'ont pas été vraiment efficaces.


After some trips in the middle of a Coronavirus epidemic, a little come back to the "fundamentals" is essential....
So back to the collection with a curiously decorated Douglas Tbd Devastator.

I bought this original Chaubet model, of which I already have a copy (see here), on the second market without thinking too much what I was going to do with it...
And when the question arose, I realized that I didn't really want to decorate it with the American pre-war neutrality livery : aluminum or light gray fuselage and chrome yellow wings.

So, I searched, searched, until I found photos of Devastator having been the subject of camouflage tests, which we do not know if they were implemented on first line planes, but which were not really effective.

Le plus difficile pour la peinture a été l'enlèvement des décalcomanies, puis la mise en place des bandes de masquage...
Et voici le résultat.


The most difficult for painting was the removal of the decals, then the installation of masking tapes...

1/144 Fokker D.XXI

Après cette parenthèse singapourienne, retour à la collection avec ce Fokker D.XXI au 1/144 que j'ai moulé et coulé à partir d'un kit en résine de Kami de Koro Koro.

After this Singaporean parenthesis, back to the collection with this Fokker D.XXI at 1/144 that I molded and casted from a Kami de Koro Koro resin kit.

D'accord, à première vue, ce n'est pas très joli.
Mais, vous verrez, avec un moteur, des trains d'atterrissage et après un peu d'ébarbage, de ponçage, de peinture et quelques décalques..., voici un Fokker D.XXI aux couleurs de l'armée de l'air des Pays-Bas, avec les marquages de neutralité, juste avant le début de la seconde guerre mondiale.

Okay, at first glance, it's not very pretty.
But, you will see, with an engine, landing gear and after a little deburring, sanding, painting and some decals..., here is a Fokker D.XXI in the colors of the Air Force of Netherlands, with neutrality markings, just before the start of the Second World War.
