Réalisé par M. Chaubet, le Blériot-Spad S.510 est le dernier avion biplan de l'Armée de l'Air.
Conçu au début des années 30, avec un premier vol en 1933, alors que sont en même temps produits les premiers avions monoplans, il est néanmoins commandé à 60 exemplaire en 1935.
Au début de la seconde guerre mondiale, il ne reste qu'une quarantaine de S.510 encore en service, une dizaine dans des écoles de pilotage, et les autres dans deux Escadrilles Régionales de Chasse : l’ERC 4/561 en charge de la protection du port du Havre, et l’ERC 3/561 chargée de la protection de Paris.
Les avions qui resteront après l'Armistice de 1940 finiront ferraillés
Created by Mr. Chaubet, the Blériot-Spad S.510 is the last biplane aircraft of the French Air Force.
Designed in the early 1930s, with a first flight in 1933, while the first monoplanes were being produced at the same time, 60 units were nevertheless ordered in 1935.
At the start of the Second World War, there were only around forty S.510s still in service, around ten in flight schools, and the others in two Escadrilles Régionales de Chasse or ERC (Regional Fighter Squadrons) : the ERC 4/561 in charge of the protection of the port of Le Havre, and ERC 3/561 responsible for the protection of Paris.
The planes that remained after the Armistice of 1940 would end up scrapped...
