1/144 Convair B-58 Hustler - by Staples & Vine

Sur la route pour aller au Scale ModelWorld, j'ai fait un petit détour chez des amis pour récupérer un modèle, tout fini, que j'avais fait envoyer chez eux....

Oh, ce n'était presque rien...

Juste le dernier modèle réalisé par Staples & Vine, anciennement Diverse Images : un Convair B-58 Hustler, bien sûr intégralement en métal, au 1/144.

Le modèle fait parfaitement honneur à cet avion magnifique, ce bombardier avec son aile delta, ses 4 réacteurs sous les ailes le propulsant à Mach 2 et son container largable (qui comprenait à la fois un réservoir supplémentaire et une bombe atomique...). 

Mais malgré ses qualités esthétiques, cet avion présentait de nombreux problèmes : difficile à piloter, coût particulièrement élevé, rayon d'action plus limité que le B-52 Stratofortress, besoin de nombreuses opérations de maintenance, beaucoup d'accidents ayant entraîné la mort de 36 membres d'équipage...

Mais surtout, l'introduction des missiles sol-air a obligé le B-58 à un rôle de pénétration à basse altitude pour les éviter, et limité ainsi son rayon d'action. 

Ainsi, malgré les nombreux succès (dont 19 records du monde de vitesse...) la carrière opérationnelle du B-58 n'a duré qu'une petite dizaine d'année, de 1960 à 1969....

Oh, it was almost nothing...

Just the latest model produced by Staples & Vine, formerly Diverse Images : a Convair B-58 Hustler, of course entirely in metal, at 1/144.

The model perfectly honors this magnificent aircraft, this bomber with its delta wing, its 4 reactors under the wings propelling it to Mach 2 and its droppable container (which included both an additional tank and an atomic bomb...).

But despite its aesthetic qualities, this plane presented many problems : difficult to fly, particularly high cost, more limited range than the B-52 Stratofortress, need for numerous maintenance operations, many accidents leading to the death of 36 crew members...

But above all, the introduction of surface-to-air missiles forced the B-58 into a low-altitude penetration role to avoid them, and thus limited its range of action. 

The operational career of the B-58 lasted only about ten years, from 1960 to 1969....

Et bien, moi aussi, et tellement que j'ai décidé de ne pas essayer de couler un B-58 (sur la base du kit Hobbycraft) comme je l'avais envisagé. 

J'aurais eu trop honte....😂😂😂

Well, I did too, and so much so that I decided not to try and cast a B-58 (based on the Hobbycraft kit) as I had considered. 

I would have been too ashamed....😂😂😂

1/144 English Electric Lightning F.53

Voici un modèle qui m'a demandé pas mal de travail, notamment de recherche.

Lorsque j'ai acheté ce Lightning (fabriqué par Diverse Images) dans le cadre d'un lot, j'ai recherché une décoration un peu originale, changeant des 4 autres de la RAF que j'avais déjà (trois Lightning F.1A et un Lightning F.6).

Et puis, je me suis dit que je pourrais peut être le présenter avec les bidons supplémentaires sur les ailes, comme le kit Revell de Lightning F.53.

Et j'ai cherché, cherché une photo d'un Lightning de la RSAF avec les réservoirs sur les ailes (en me demandant même si Revell n'avait pas fait une autre erreur, après celle de proposer ce kit avec une perche de ravitaillement alors que les Saoudiens n'en avaient pas voulu d'autant qu'ils n'avaient pas de ravitailleurs.....).

Puis grâce au forum KG144, j'ai eu l'explication de l'absence de toute photo : en fait, les F.53 Saoudiens n'ont eu les réservoirs additionnels que pendant leur convoyage entre le Royaume Uni et l'Arabie Saoudite.

Voici donc, après l'avoir intégralement repeint, un English Electric Lightning F.53 de la Royal Saudi Air Force, avec ses marquages propres au convoyage (il deviendra le 207 comme sur la photo originale) et ses réservoirs additionnels pour ce voyage.

This is a model that took me a lot of work, especially research.

When I bought this Lightning (made by Diverse Images) as part of a bundle, I was looking for a slightly original decoration, changing from the 4 other RAF ones I already had (three Lightning F.1A and one Lightning F.6).

And then I thought that maybe I could present it with the extra tanks on the wings, like the Revell Lightning F.53 kit.

And I searched and searched for a picture of an RSAF Lightning with the tanks on the wings (and even wondered if Revell had made an other mistake, after as offering this kit with a refuelling boom when the Saudis didn't want one, especially since they didn't have refuellers.....).

Then, thanks to the KG144 forum, I got the explanation for the absence of any photo: in fact, the Saudi F.53s only had the additional tanks during their convoying between the UK and Saudi Arabia.

So here it is, after having been completely repainted,after having been completely repainted, an English Electric Lightning F.53 of the Royal Saudi Air Force, with its own convoy markings (it will become 207 as in the original photo) and its additional tanks for this trip.

1/144 BAC Tsr-2

Il y a quelques mois, j'ai acheté un BAC Tsr-2 auprès de Staples & Vine (anciennement Diverse Images).

Les plus assidus de ce blog pourront crier : Encore un ?

C'est exact, j'avais déjà un BAC Tsr-2 obtenu en tant que membre du CAM Club (voir ici) aujourd'hui disparu...

Du coup, à la sortie du modèle Staples & Vine, j'ai pu faire une petite modification de présentation sur celui du CAM Club....

A few months ago, I bought a BAC Tsr-2 from Staples & Vine (formerly Diverse Images).

That's right, I already had a BAC Tsr-2 obtained as a member of the CAM Club (see here) now disappeared.....

So, when the Staples & Vine model was released, I was able to make a small change in presentation on the CAM Club model.....

Alors, emporté par une vague créative...., j'ai cherché une idée pour améliorer (sans le dénaturer) ce magnifique modèle de Staples & Vine.

Parce que, si ce modèle est magnifique, je trouvais sa présentation un peu triste, non ?

C'est pourquoi, en attendant de trouver l'idée, je n'ai publié qu'une seule photo de cet avion après l'avoir reçu (voir ici).

So, carried away by a creative wave ...., I looked for an idea to improve (without distorting it) this magnificent model from Staples & Vine.

Because, if this model is beautiful, I found its presentation a little sad, right ?

That's why, while waiting to find the idea, I only published one photo of this plane after receiving it (see here).

Et même avec son pilote, ce n'est guère plus gai.... 😄

And even with its pilot, it is hardly more cheerful .... 😄

J'ai donc cherché comment le présenter de manière plus "vivante"..., en m'inspirant de plusieurs photos.

Et voilà donc le résultat, au 1/144, un BAC Tsr-2 préparé pour son premier vol....

So I looked for how to present it in a more "lively" way ..., taking inspiration from several photos.

And here is the result, at 1/144, a BAC Tsr-2 prepared for its maiden flight ....

1/144 English Electric Lightning

Le petit moment de bonheur lié à l'acquisition des 2 Avro Vulcan réalisés par Diverse Images (voir ici et voir là) ne s'est pas arrêté là.....

En effet, vu ma passion pour le 1/144 et pour le fabricant Diverse Images dont j'ai pratiquement tous les modèles (au moins un de chaque type), le vendeur m'a très gentiment offert un English Electric Lightning qui était très légèrement abimé.

Mais, ce n'était pas un problème car, ayant déjà les 3 modèles de Lightning de ce fabricant, cela a été l'occasion d'en faire un 4ème grâce à la superbe planche de décalcomanies de 144th.co.uk.

Et voici donc, encore et toujours au 1/144, un English Electric Lightning à la décoration refaite....

The little moment of happiness linked to the acquisition of the 2 Avro Vulcan produced by Diverse Images (see here and see there) did not stop there .....

Indeed, considering my passion for the 1/144 and for the manufacturer Diverse Images of which I have practically all the models (at least one of each type), the seller very kindly offered me an English Electric Lightning which was very slightly damaged.

But, this was not a problem because, having already the 3 models of Lightning of this manufacturer, it was the occasion to make a 4th one thanks to the superb sheet of decals from 144th.co.uk.

And here is, again and again at 1/144, an English Electric Lightning with redone decoration ....

2ème moment de bonheur - 2nd moment of happiness : 1/144 Avro Vulcan - by Diverse Images

Comme expliqué dans le précédent message, voici donc le second Avro Vulcan de Diverse Images obtenu par un coup de chance au début de l'été.

Donc, maintenant, après avoir obtenu ces 2 Avro Vulcan épuisés, qui avaient été réalisés par Diverse Images dans les premières années d'actvité, mon bonheur est complet....😇

Sauf que..., depuis cette acquisition, je sens un manque.... 

Je n'ai plus les recherches interminables sur internet pour trouver des modèles épuisés de Diverse Images.....

Je vais m'ennuyer....😄😄😄

As explained in the previous post, here is the second Avro Vulcan from Diverse Images obtained by a fluke at the beginning of the summer.

So, now, after having obtained these 2 sold out Avro Vulcan, which had been made by Diverse Images in the first years of activity, my happiness is complete.....😇

Except that ..., since this acquisition, I feel a lack ... 

I no longer have the endless internet searches for sold out Diverse Images models .....

I am going to get bored....😄😄😄

Moment de bonheur - Moment of happiness : 1/144 Avro Vulcan - by Diverse Images

Dans le précédent message (voir ici), je vous ai dit que l'achat du Hawker Hunter aux couleurs des Blue Diamonds avait été à l'origine d'un grand moment de bonheur.....

En effet, à l'occasion d'un échange de mails avec le vendeur, qui proposait plusieurs modèles de Diverse Images (aujourd'hui Staples & Vine) au 1/144, je lui ai dit que j'en avais déjà beaucoup sauf les Avro Vulcan que j'avais ratés lors de leur sortie, et jamais revus sur les différents sites de vente aux enchères. 

Et là, miracle, joie, bonheur et tout et tout....

Le vendeur en avait.... et il était prêt à les vendre.

Alors, j'ai pris conseil, j'ai réfléchi, intensément mais rapidement et.... j'en ai acheté DEUX......😇

Oui, je suis un peu dingue, mais comme dit le proverbe : quand on aime, on ne compte pas.....

Et voici donc, enfin, un des 3 Avro Vulcan fabriqués par Diverse Images (non, je n'en ai pas acheté 3...., 2 suffisaient largement....! 😂).

In the previous message (see here), I told you that the purchase of the Hawker Hunter in the colors of the Blue Diamonds had been at the origin of a great moment of happiness .....

Indeed, during an exchange of emails with the seller, who offered several Diverse Images models (now Staples & Vine) at 1/144, I told him that I already had a lot except the Avro Vulcan that I had missed when they were released, and never seen on the various auction sites.

And there, miracle, joy, happiness and all and all...

The seller had some .... and he was ready to sell them.

So, I took advice, I thought, intensely but quickly and .... I bought TWO ...... 😇

Yes, I'm a little crazy, but as the French saying goes : when you love you don’t count the cost .....

And here is, finally, one of the 3 Avro Vulcan manufactured by Diverse Images (no, I did not buy 3 ...., 2 were more than enough ....! 😂).

Oui mais, d'une part, il porte la décoration de la patrouille acrobatique des Blue Diamonds de la Royal Air Force.

Il est vraiment superbe (même si certains décalques sont un peu défraichies). 

Oui mais, d'autre part, il est à l'origine d'une ENORME surprise, un moment de bonheur, que je vous raconterai dans le prochain post....
