1/144 De Havilland 88 Comet - by Chaubet

Un des trois nouveaux modèles au 1/144 que M. Chaubet vient de réaliser cet automne : l'iconique De Havilland 88 Comet.
Le modèle qu'il a choisi de réaliser est le G-ACSR, quatrième de la course Londres-Melbourne, sous l'immatriculation F-ANPY après qu'il ait été racheté par le gouvernement français pour servir d'avion postal, établissant plusieurs records avec Mermoz comme pilote, sur les lignes Paris-Casablanca-Dakar et Paris-Alger.

Au fait, vous vous rappelez que le gagnant de cette fameuse course Londres-Melbourne est un autre Comet, le G-ACSS Grosvenor House.
Mais qui a été le second de la course ? Hmmm ?
Eh bien, un Douglas DC-2, précurseur du DC-3 Dakota.....


One of the three new models at 1/144 that Mr. Chaubet just made this fall : the iconic De Havilland 88 Comet.
The model he chose to realize is the G-ACSR, fourth in the London-Melbourne race, under the registration F-ANPY after it was bought by the French government to serve as a postal plane, establishing several records with Mermoz as pilot, on the lines Paris-Casablanca-Dakar and Paris-Algiers.

By the way, you remember that the winner of this famous London-Melbourne race is another Comet, the G-ACSS Grosvenor House.
But who was the second in this race ? Hmmm ?

1/144 Morane-Saulnier MS.410

Encore un avion finlandais, porteur du camouflage hivernal de la Guerre de Continuation.

Sur la base du kit de MS.406 réalisé par M. Chaubet au 1/144, que j'ai monté, peint et décoré, j'ai choisi de faire la version MS.410, c'est à dire comportant un radiateur fixe créé de toute pièce, au lieu du radiateur articulé du 406.

On the basis of the MS.406 kit made by M. Chaubet at 1/144, which I mounted, painted and decorated, I chose to make the MS.410 version, ie with a fixed radiator created from scratch, instead of the articulated radiator of 406.

La seconde étape principale a été de réaliser le camouflage classique finlandais, vert et noir, puis de peindre en blanc à la bombe Tamya et en utilisant des boudins de pâte à modeler.

Corsaire - Corsair : 1/144 Nakajima E8N "Dave"

Un corsaire au 1/144 ? Et en plus, un corsaire japonais ? Qu'est-ce que c'est que cette histoire ?

Alors, faisons un peu d'histoire...
Se doutant que ses unités de ligne seraient traquées par les marines alliées, en particulier la Royal Navy, la Kriegsmarine a armé un certain nombre de navires marchands en conservant leur apparence "civile" (qui pouvait être modifiée en fonction des besoins par quelques aménagements : cheminée, superstructures, et allant même jusqu'à changer de pavillon...).
Ces croiseurs auxiliaires, avec un équipage de la Kriegsmarine, étaient armés de canons, torpilles, mines et un ou deux Arado Ar 196 pour la reconnaissance.
Leur mission était de couler et désorganiser la navigation commerciale alliée, et indirectement, de forcer les marines militaires alliées à détourner des navires de guerre à leur recherche.
Parmi les 11 navires auxiliaires corsaires, figure le navire Orion qui, d'Avril 1940 jusqu'à son retour en Allemagne en Octobre 1941, a principalement "écumé" l'Océan Indien et le Pacifique, coulant une quinzaine de navires.

So let's do some history ...
Suspecting that its line units would be hunted down by the Allied navies, especially the Royal Navy, the Kriegsmarine armed a number of merchant ships while retaining their "civilian" appearance (which could be modified according to the needs by some facilities : chimney, superstructures, etc, and even going to change flag...).
These auxiliary cruisers, with a crew of the Kriegsmarine, were armed with cannons, torpedoes, mines and one or two Arado Ar 196 for reconnaissance.
Their mission was to sink and disrupt allied commercial shipping, and indirectly, to force allied military navies to divert warships in search of them.
Among the 11 corsairs auxiliary vessels, there is the ship Orion which, from April 1940 until its return to Germany in October 1941, mainly "scoured" the Indian Ocean and the Pacific, sinking about fifteen ships.

Tout simplement, après destruction de son hydravion Arado Ar 196, l'Orion a été équipé par les japonais d'un autre hydravion, un Nakajima E8N "Dave", qui a eu la particularité de porter une livrée britannique (même si elle était fantaisiste, notamment pour les cocardes).

C'est donc le modèle que j'ai voulu réaliser, grâce au kit toujours aussi magnifique réalisé par M. Toki au 1/144, que j'ai donc, monté, peint et décoré.


Okay, but what about the link with the Nakajima...?
Quite simply, after the destruction of its Arado Ar 196 seaplane, the Orion was equipped by the Japanese with another seaplane, a Nakajima E8N "Dave", which had the particularity of wearing a British livery (although it was fanciful, especially for cockades).

So this is the model that I wanted to realize, thanks to the always beautiful kit made by Mr. Toki at 1/144, so I mounted, painted and decorated.

La seule photo de cet avion n'aide pas pour déterminer quelles ont été les couleurs réelles de cet avion japonais aux couleurs britanniques sur un navire allemand...

Et le seul profil qui existe de cet avion n'aide pas plus.

Alors, pour la peinture, l'avion étant fourni aux allemands par les japonais, j'ai recherché parmi les couleurs que l'on prête habituellement aux avions de la marine impériale, celles qui pouvaient être les plus proches de celles des avions britanniques.

Et quand je n'ai pas trouvé dans les "peintures japonaises", j'ai recherché parmi les allemandes, considérant que ceux-ci avaient pu "mettre leur touche artistique" sur le camouflage de cet avion.

So, for the painting, the plane being supplied to the Germans by the Japanese, I searched among the colors that one usually attribute to the planes of the imperial navy, those which could be the closest to those of the British planes.

And when I did not find in the "Japanese paintings", I searched among the German, considering that these had been able to "put their artistic touch" on the camouflage of this plane.

1/144 Curtiss A-12 Shrike

Ce n'est pas très beau, non ?

Mais, ça, c'est un peu mieux.

C'est la seconde coulée d'un autre modèle dont j'ai réalisé le moule en silicone, et voici le modèle monté, recouvert d'un apprêt, avec celui en résinede Fairy Kikaku ayant servi de base.

This is the second casting of another model of which I realized the silicone mold, and here is the assembled model covered with a primer, with the one in resin from Fairy Kikaku having served as base.

Et là, entièrement terminé, peint et décoré, ce second modèle provenant de ma "petite industrie"...., un Curtiss A-12 Shrike, aux couleurs de la Chine d'avant le second conflit mondial.

And there, fully finished, painted and decorated, this second model from my "small industry" ...., a Curtiss A-12 Shrike, in the colors of China before the Second World War.

1/144 Fiat G.50

Un modèle en kit de M. Chaubet que j'ai monté, peint et décoré aux couleurs de l'aviation finlandaise pendant la Guerre de Continuation de 1941 à 1944 (c'est à dire la seconde guerre contre les Soviétiques après la Guerre d'Hiver de 1939 à 1940).

Pour la livrée, il faut savoir que les Fiat, comme d'autres avions étrangers, utilisés par les Finlandais, portaient habituellement leur peinture d'origine pendant la Guerre d'Hiver, puis ont été repeints uniformément en vert durant la Trêve, avant de porter le camouflage vert et noir de la Guerre de Continuation.

J'ai considéré que la couleur verte avait largement souffert des conditions rigoureuses du grand nord et j'ai donc essayé de faire apparaître un peu de marron de la livrée initiale.

Pour les puristes, si l'avion ne porte pas de bande jaune sur le moteur, qui ne sera apposée qu'à partir de Septembre 1941, c'est que la photo de référence a été prise en Août 1941....
Et vous croyez que c'est facile....


A model kit from Mr. Chaubet I built, painted and decorated with the colors of the Finnish aviation during the Continuation War from 1941 to 1944 (ie the second war against the Soviets after the Winter War from 1939 to 1940).

For the livery, it should be know that Fiat, like other foreign planes, used by Finns, usually wore their original paint during the Winter War, then were repainted uniformly in green during the Truce, before wearing green and black camouflage of the Continuation War.

I considered that the green color had largely suffered from the rigorous conditions of the far north and so I tried to show a bit of brown of the initial livery.

For the purists, if the plane does not wear a yellow band on the engine, which will be affixed only from September 1941, it is that the reference photo was taken in August 1941 ....

1/144 Fairey Swordfish

Comme je l’ai montré dans le précédent message (voir ici), après la peinture, j’ai posé l’aile supérieure sur le reste du modèle du Swordfish.

As showed in the previous post (see here), after painting, I put the top wing on the rest of the Swordfish model.

Et là, j’ai fait une connerie.
Oui, dans la précipitation, j’ai oublié que je devais peindre en noir le dessus du fuselage pour réaliser le modèle que j'avais choisi....
Ahhh !!!! il y a des jours où on regrette de ne pas avoir de cerveau….
Bon, finalement, avec une grande angoisse, j’ai fini par peindre cette décoration noire, entre les mats et en évitant de tacher la peinture des ailes (qui est difficile à retoucher car elle est faite à la bombe).

Et pour finir, la pose du train d’atterrissage, celui du modèle F-Toys, même s’il est en plastique, la pose des décalques, sans difficultés particulières si ce n’est le sérial, en deux exemplaires de chaque côté, à poser lettre par lettre et chiffre par chiffre, puis la mise en place du moteur de Model Power, après avoir été repeint.

Et voici donc, après beaucoup de boulot, un Fairey Swordfish, en métal, au 1/144.

Yes, in a hurry, I forgot that I had to paint in black the top of the fuselage to make the model that I had chosen...
Ahhh !!!!, there are days when one regret not having a brain....
Well, finally, with great anguish, I ended up painting this black decoration, between the mats and avoiding staining the paint of the wings (which is difficult to retouch because it is made with a spray).

And finally, put the landing gear, the one of the F-Toys model, even if it is plastic, apply the decals, without particular difficulties except the serial, in two copies on each side, to put letter by letter and number by number, then put the Model Power engine, after being repainted.

And here is, after a lot of work, a Fairey Swordfish, in metal, at 1/144.

Cet oiseau, ou plutôt ce poisson, est un monstre.
J’ai cru m’être trompé pour les trains d’atterrissage, que je pensais trop hauts.
Mais finalement, en regardant les photos réelles, il n’y a pas d’erreurs, c’est vraiment un avion énorme, et vraiment haut.

This bird, or rather this fish, is a monster.
I thought I was mistaken for the landing gear, which I thought was too high.
But finally, looking at the real pictures, there are no mistakes, it's really a huge plane, and really high.
