1/144 De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver

Le dernier modèle de la livraison de Printemps 2024 de M. Chaubet.

Je lui avais demandé ce Beaver juste monté et non peint, car je voulais faire une décoration "souvenir-souvenir".....

Vous avez une petite idée ?

Mais si, cette livrée est super connue et elle a fait rêver beaucoup de maquettistes (quand ils étaient plus jeunes.....).

I asked him for this Beaver just assembled and not painted, because I wanted to make a "souvenir-souvenir" decoration.....

But yes, this livery is very well known and it has made many modelers dream (when they were younger.....).

Oui, je sais, je suis un idiot nostalgique (et pas original).

Mais je me suis aperçu, au fil de la collection, que j'avais des modèles inspirés directement ou non (avec des livrées différentes des boxarts) par Airfix (voir ici).

Et j'adore ça....!!!!

Et donc, quand l'occasion se présente, je réalise le modèle du boxart, comme pour ce De Havilland Beaver....

Yes, I know, I'm a nostalgic idiot (and not original).

But I realized, over the course of the collection, that I had models inspired directly or not (with liveries different from the boxarts) by Airfix (see here).

And I adore that....!!!!

And so, when the opportunity presents itself, I create the boxart model, like for this De Havilland Beaver....

1/144 Supermarine Walrus - Part 2

Après le montage de ce Walrus, et la création de la roulette de queue (qui a généré un certain nombre de jurons...), la peinture s'est déroulée sans problème, sauf qu'elle a été assez longue avec les différentes nuances entre aile inférieure et aile supérieure.

Pour les décalcomanies de code squadron et d'avion, j'ai finalement choisi une couleur Sky, me semblant plus conforme à "l'esprit" des avions de cette époque, et les "couleurs" des photos originales du moins ce qui m'a semblé....).

Et voici, enfin, un Supermarine Walrus, au 1/144, clin d'oeil à la maquette Airfix au 1/72 d'il y a bien bien longtemps....

After fitting this Walrus, and the creation of the tail wheel (which generated a number of swear words...), the painting went smoothly, except that it was quite long with the different shades between lower wing and upper wing.

For the squadron and plane code decals, I finally chose a Sky color, which seemed to me more in line with the "spirit" of planes of that time, and the "colors" of the original photos (at least so it seemed to me....).

And here is, finally, a Supermarine Walrus, at 1/144, a nod to the Airfix model at 1/72 from a long time ago....

Bon, mais ça fait un peu triste tout ça, non ?

Il manque le fun, le rêve et autres de la maquette Airfix, non ?

Alors, pour remédier à cela, que diriez vous d'une petite mise en scène ?

Le titre pourrait être : décollage d'un Walrus après récupération d'un pilote abattu en mer....

OK, but that's a bit sad, isn't it ?

It lacks the fun, the dream and so on of the Airfix model, right ?

So, to remedy that, how about a little staging ?

The title could be: takeoff of a Walrus after recovery of a pilot shot down at sea....

Supermarine Walrus - Part 1

1/144 North American RA-5C Vigilante

Lorsque j'étais gamin (car oui, j'ai été un jeune aussi....😁), j'ai été fasciné (eh oui, encore, mais je suis facilement impressionnable....😄) par une maquette d'Airfix et son boxart, le North American RA-5C Vigilante.

When I was a kid (because yes, I was a young person too ....😁), I was fascinated (yes, again, but I am easily impressionable ....😄) by a model of Airfix and its boxart, the North American RA-5C Vigilante.

Mais, il n'y a pas eu que ça....(les amateurs de bande dessinée de "l'école franco-belge", par opposition aux comics anglo-saxons, vont me comprendre....).

Donc, quand j'étais jeune (vous noterez que j'insiste....), j'ai été "élévé au biberon" des aventures de Buck Danny, un pilote américain, qui fait des allers-retours entre l'USAAF (puis USAF) et l'US Navy, dont la carrière a débuté au début de la seconde guerre mondiale jusqu'à la guerre de Bosnie et l'Afghanistan, sans prendre une ride pas plus d'ailleurs que les autres personnages de la série...

Et parmi ses nombreuses aventures, le pilote Buck Danny a été amené à piloter le North American Vigilante mais dans sa première version de bombardier emportant une bombe atomique (même si la dénomination de l'avion n'est pas tout à fait conforme....).

But, it wasn't just that....(Comic fans from the "Franco-Belgian school", as opposed to Anglo-Saxon comics, will understand me ....).

So when I was young (you will note that I insist ....), I was "bottle-fed" by the adventures of Buck Danny, an American pilot, who goes back and forth between the USAAF ( then USAF) and the US Navy, whose career began at the beginning of the Second World War until the Bosnian War and Afghanistan, without taking a wrinkle any more than the other characters in the series ...

And among his many adventures, the pilot Buck Danny was brought in to fly the North American Vigilante but in its first version of a bomber carrying an atomic bomb (even if the name of the plane is not quite correct ... .).

C'est dans ces conditions que, dès que j'ai pu, j'ai demandé à M. Chaubet d'inclure ce modèle dans un des deux moules complets que je lui ai commandé (voir ici).

Ce modèle est énorme et lourd, à l'instar de l'original : plus de 23 mètres de longueur, plus de 16 mètres d'envergure et un poids à vide de 14 tonnes....

Alors, pour illustrer les spécifications de cet avion sur un porte-avions, j'avais envisagé des photos comme celles-ci....

It is under these conditions that, as soon as I was able, I asked Mr. Chaubet to include this model in one of the two complete molds that I ordered from him (see here).

This model is huge and heavy, just like the original : over 23 meters in length, over 16 meters wingspan and an empty weight of 14 tons....

So, to illustrate the specs of this aircraft on an aircraft carrier, I had considered photos like these ....

Mais, je préfère ces photos qui font plus honneur à cet avion.

But, I prefer these photos which do more credit to this plane.

Sauf que, une fois le montage et la peinture effectués, s'est posé le problème des décalques, rares au 1/144 pour cet avion.

Celles du kit ayant servi de master étaient inexploitables, car trop vieilles et sèches, et j'ai du avoir recours à celles de Superscale.

Mais si je n'ai pas eu de problème avec les décalques de ce fabricant pour les Crusader, F-105, P-38 Lightning, B-25 Mitchell etc, j'ai été incapable de trouver des photos correspondant aux livrées proposées pour le Vigilante.

J'ai donc dû user du scalpel pour les immatriculations, avec des décalques particulièrement fines...

Beaucoup de sueur et jurons...😈😇

Mais voici le résultat, au 1/144 et en métal, un Vigilante dont j'ai eu la chance de trouver plusieurs photos du même, à l'appontage....

Except that, once the assembly and painting were done, there was the problem of decals, rare at 1/144 for this aircraft.

Those of the kit having been used as master were unusable, because too old and dry, and I had to resort to those of Superscale.

But while I had no problem with this manufacturer's decals for the Crusader, F-105, P-38 Lightning, B-25 Mitchell etc, I was unable to find photos matching the liveries offered for the Vigilante.

So I had to use the scalpel for registrations, with particularly fine decals ...

Lots of sweat and swearing ...😈😇

But here is the result, at 1/144 and in metal, a Vigilante of which I was lucky to find several photos of the same, on the landing ....

1/144 Saab 35 Draken

 C'est (encore) un avion qui m'a fasciné, en raison de sa ligne avec ses ailes en double delta, et aussi (et encore) du box art du kit Airfix au 1/72.....

It is (again) an airplane that fascinated me, due to its line with its double delta wings, and also (and again) the boxart of the Airfix kit at 1/72.....

Ce modèle en métal provient de la commande faite à M. Chaubet d'un 2ème moule complet (voir ici), que j'ai construit, peint et décoré.

Pour la décoration, j'ai bien sûr été tenté de faire celle du box art Airfix, mais en faisant des recherches sur l'avion, j'ai trouvé que la livrée toute simple, en alu, rendait parfaitement honneur à cette ligne particulière des ailes (même si j'ai un peu cassé le design avec les réservoirs et missiles comme sur la photo choisie pour illustrer le modèle....).

This metal model comes from the order made to Mr. Chaubet for a 2nd complete mold (see here), which I built, painted and decorated.

For the decoration, I was of course tempted to make that of the Airfix boxart, but while researching the aircraft, I found that the very simple livery, in aluminum, perfectly did justice to this particular line of wings (even if I broke the design a bit with the tanks and missiles as on the photo chosen to illustrate the model ....).

1/144 Blohm & Voss Bv 141

Lorsque j'étais gamin, j'étais fasciné par cet avion, et surtout ou peut être uniquement, par le boxart.....

When I was a kid, I was fascinated by this plane, and above all or perhaps only, by the boxart.....

J'avais toujours eu envie de le réaliser, mais à l'époque des grosses taches de colle et de peinture, je ne m'en sentais pas capable.... et cette impression est restée....

J'ai même été tenté de le réaliser comme ça....😁😇

I had always wanted to do it, but at the time of the big stains of glue and paint, I did not feel capable of it.... and this impression remained....

I was even tempted to realize it like that ....😁😇

Et cet avion est resté d'autant plus inaccessible, qu'ayant rejoint le monde du 1/144, mais en métal, je ne pensais jamais en trouver ou en monter un.

Puis l'été dernier, lors de ma saison intensive de moulage et coulage, je me suis rappelé que le fabricant de résine Anigrand en avait produit un comme bonus d'un Junkers Ju 352 Herkules.

Alors, "chaud-bouillant" comme on dit dans le Sud, j'ai commandé cette maquette Anigrand et j'ai fait un moule puis j'ai coulé en métal ce Blohm & Voss Bv 141.

And this plane remained all the more inaccessible since having joined the world of 1/144, but made of metal, I never expected to find or built one.

Then last summer, during my intensive molding and casting season, I remembered that resin maker Anigrand had produced one as a bonus from a Junkers Ju 352 Herkules.

So, "hot-boiling" as they say in the South of France, I ordered this Anigrand model and I made a mold then I cast this Blohm & Voss Bv 141 in metal.

Le problème essentiel de ce modèle est la verrière.

Pas seulement sa peinture, mais comme j'étais en vacances, je n'avais pas mon matériel habituel et j'ai un peu merdé le montage de la verrière sur le 2éme fuselage.

La seconde difficulté tient à ce que la gravure de la verrière, particulièrement les montants, est un peu proéminente à mon gout.

J'aurais peut être du tenter de les poncer un peu plus, mais j'ai eu peur de perdre alors le schéma des montants de la verrière.

Et, est-ce que vous imaginez la séance de masquage de la verrière....?

The main problem with this model is the canopy.

Not only his painting, but since I was on vacation, I didn't have my usual equipment and I messed up the assembly of the canopy on the 2nd fuselage.

The second difficulty is that the engraving of the canopy, in particular the uprights, is a bit prominent for my taste.

I should perhaps have tried to sand them a little more, but I was afraid of losing the diagram of the amounts of the canopy.

And, do you imagine the canopy masking session ....?

Enfin, motif de satisfaction, j'ai pu faire la même immatriculation que le modèle Airfix, qui existait vraiment et pas une lubie de dessinateur, le B-02 (V10) - WNr 0210002 NC+RA....

Et voici donc, au 1/144, en métal, un Blohm & Voss Bv.141 (qui entre aussi parfaitement dans la catégorie de la nostalgie des modèles Airfix.....😇😎👀).

Mais, le temps de me remettre de mes émotions, je referais peut être la peinture de la verrière, après l'avoir poncée....

Finally, reason of satisfaction, I was able to make the same registration as the Airfix model, which really existed and not a designer whim, the B-02 (V10) - WNr 0210002 NC + RA ....

And here is, at 1/144, in metal, a Blohm & Voss Bv.141 (which also fits perfectly into the category of nostalgia for Airfix models....😇😎👀).

But, the time to recover from my emotions, I might redo the painting of the canopy, after having sanded it ....
