1/144 Johnny Lightning : P-51, P-47, P-40, Corsair

Il y a quelques années, j'ai trouvé sur internet des ensembles de 2 avions sous blister, annoncés comme étant au 1/144 et en métal, de la marque Johnny Lightning Military Muscle.
Aventurier comme je suis, j'ai donc pris le risque d'en acheter deux sets :
- un P-40 Warhawk
- un P-47 Thunderbolt razorback
- un F4U Corsair,
- et un P-51 Mustang.
Ces modèles sont présentés sur un support, et ils n'ont donc pas de train d’atterrissage.
Ils sont bien conformes au 1/144, mais comme tous ces produits Diecast, la gravure est un peu importante.


A few years ago, I found on the web sets of two planes under blister, advertised as 1/144 and metal, of the brand Johnny Lightning Military Muscle.
Adventurous as I am, so I took the risk to buy two sets :
- a P-40 Warhawk
- a P-47 Thunderbolt razorback
- a F4U Corsair
-  and a P-51 Mustang.
These models are presented on a support, and they do not have landing gear.
They are conform to 1/144, but like all these products Diecast, engraving is a little high.

Pour le P-51, rien à dire pour la décoration qui est vraiment superbe.

For the P-51, nothing to say for decoration which is lovely.

Pour le P-47, j'ai juste complété la décoration du nez avec des décalques pour le mot "Dottie III".
Il a fallu poser lettre par lettre, sur les 2 côtés...


For the P-47, I just completed the decoration of the nose with decals for the word "Dottie III".
It took put letter by letter, on the two sides...

Le P-40 est pas mal, aux couleurs des Tigres Volants, mais je ne sais pas si je ne vais pas le redécorer.


The P-40 is not bad, in Flying Tigers markings, but I do not know if I'm not going to redecorate.

J'ai trouvé le Corsair très moche, et j'ai donc décidé de le repeindre complètement.


I found the Corsair really ugly, so I decided to repaint it completely.

Pour changer un peu des Corsair américains, anglais ou français, j'ai finalement choisi un avion de la marine argentine, grâce aux planches de décalques de Zotz (Roundels of the world).
Les planches sont au 1/72 mais on peut utiliser les petites décalques pour certains modèles au 1/144 à l'époque où les cocardes n'étaient pas "basse visibilité".


To change a bit of American, British or French Corsairs, I finally chose an aircraft of the Argentine Navy,  thanks to Zotz decals sheets (Roundels of the world).
The sheets are 1/72 but you can use small decals for some models to 1/144 at the time when cockades were not "low visibility".

Je ne sais pas si cet insigne de la marine argentine est de la même époque que l'avion, mais je l'ai trouvé joli pour orner le socle.


I do not know if the badge of the Argentine navy is to the same time as the plane, but I found it nice to adorn the base.

1/144 Cantieri Z.1007 Alcione - by Atlas

Encore un modèle Atlas (De Agostini), sur lequel je n’ai rien modifié, le Cantieri Cant. Z.1007 Alcione (martin-pécheur).
Cet avion a été utilisé en tant que bombardier et torpilleur, un peu comme le Savoia Marchetti Sm.79 (voir ici).
Ce modèle est décoré aux couleurs de l’Italie « co belligérante » c’est-à-dire l’Italie qui a renversé Mussolini en 1943, et se rangea du côté des alliés.
Mussolini créera la République Socialiste Italienne (RSI) dans le nord de l’Italie, pour se battre du côté des allemands.

Another Atlas (De Agostini) model, which I have changed nothing, the Cantieri Cant. Z.1007 Alcione (kingfisher).
This aircraft was used as a torpedo and bomber, like the Savoia Marchetti SM.79 (see here).
This model is decorated in the colors of Italy "co belligerent", ie Italy which overthrew Mussolini in 1943, and took the side of the Allies.
Mussolini will create the Italian Socialist Republic (RSI) in the north of Italy, to fight on the side of the Germans.

A civilian model for change, always in the series of large pieces,the transport aircraft of the interwar Couzinet 70 Arc en Ciel (Rainbow), made by Mr. Chaubet.

1/144 Lockheed PV-1 Ventura - by Chaubet

Encore un modèle qui n’a pas eu les honneurs des fabricants de maquettes au 1/144 ou de Gashapon, mais qui a été réalisé par M. Chaubet : le Lockheed PV-1 Ventura.
Ce modèle est issu d’un avion civil, le Lockheed Lodestar, à la suite des commandes massives de bombardiers légers passées par les Britanniques au début de la seconde guerre mondiale, mais qui sera assez vite cantonné aux missions du Coastal Command.
Il sera utilisé de la même manière par les américains.

Another model which has not had the honors of model makers to 1/144 or Gashapon, but was made by Mr. Chaubet : the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura.
This model is derived form a civilian aircraft, the Lockheed Lodestar, following massive orders for light bombers placed by the British at the beginning of the Second World War, but which will quickly confined to Coastal Command missions.
It will be used in the same way by Americans.

1/144 Mitsubishi Ki.21 "Sally"

Voici un modèle de Mitsubishi Ki.21, nom de code "Sally", fabriqué par Atlas (De Agostini), dont j’ai trouvé la décoration d’origine assez moche.

Here is a model of Mitsubishi Ki.21, code-named "Sally", manufactured by Atlas (De Agostini), which I found the original decoration rather ugly.

Je l’ai donc entièrement repeint en voulant donner une impression de camouflage posé hâtivement sur un terrain d’aviation avancé.

Sur une base de peinture alu, j’ai donc utilisé la technique des boudins de pâte à modeler (décrite plus complètement ici et dont les résultats peuvent être vus là : lien 1 ou lien 2) pour la peinture verte, de manière à créer un camouflage aléatoire et économe en peinture.

So I completely repainted it wanting to give an impression of camouflage hastily put on an advanced airbase.

On the basis of aluminum paint, so I used the technique of sausage plasticine (described more fully here and whose results can be seen there : link 1 or link 2) for green paint, to create a random camouflage and economical of paint.

Encore un « gros », fabriqué par CORGI, le Vickers VC-10 dans sa configuration au moment de la guerre des Malouines, c’est-à-dire transport de blessés.

Another "heavie", made by CORGI, the Vickers VC-10 in its configuration during the Falklands War, ie Medevac.
