Famille Dassault - Dassault Family

Cela fait des années qu'au milieu de toute ma documentation, j'ai cette photo tirée d'un magazine dont je n'ai pas noté le nom, représentant divers avions de la famille Dassault.

For years, amidst all my documentation, I've had this photo from a magazine whose name I haven't noted, depicting various aircraft from the Dassault family.

Puis, il y a peu, en faisant du rangement, j'ai retrouvé cette photo qui m'a fait penser à tous les modèles d'avions que j'avais au 1/144, réalisés par cet avionneur prolifique (je parle de Dassault et pas de M. Chaubet même s'il a réalisé tous les modèles présentés ci-dessous....)

Donc, je me suis dit que pour présenter tous ces avions Dassault, rien de tel qu'un un petit diorama avec un bout de hangar de la base aérienne d'Istres, dans le sud de la France, qui comprend le Centre d'Essais en Vol, passage obligé pour la qualification et la certification de tout avion, civil ou militaire.

Seul petit problème : Il manque le Mirage IIIR, mais j'en ai ajouté d'autres non présents sur la photo d'origine.....

Then, recently, while tidying up, I found this photo which made me think of all the 1/144 scale aircraft models I had, made by this prolific aircraft manufacturer (I'm talking about Dassault and not Mr. Chaubet even though he made all the models presented below....).

So, I thought that to present all these Dassault aircraft, there was nothing like a small diorama with a piece of the hangar at the Istres air base in the south of France, which includes the Centre d'Essais en Vol (Flight Test Center), a necessary step for the qualification and certification of any aircraft, civil or military.

Only small problem : The Mirage IIIR is missing, but I added others not present in the original photo.....

The first model is the Gasuden Koken or Gasuden Koken or Koken-ki, a Japanese long-range research aircraft of the 1930s, a resin kit made by A&W.

The second is the Nakajima Ki-11, "ancestor" of the Nakajima Ki-27 "Nate".

1/144 Grumman F-14 Tomcat - by Century Wings

Je l'ai déjà dit pour le précédent F-14 Tomcat (voir ici).

Mais oui, je le redis : Encore un ?

Encore un F-14 Tomcat, et toujours provenant de Century Wings...?

Alors, pour être précis : oui, j'ai acheté (encore) un nouveau Tomcat du même fabricant, cette fois-ci avec les ailes repliées.... et je suis en train de vendre celui que j'avais acheté en 2016...

Alors, pourquoi ce changement ?

Parce que j'ai un projet que j'espère pouvoir concrétiser dans cette fin d'année. 

Autant de temps, car il faut que je coule en métal un autre avion que j'ai seulement trouvé en impression 3D, mais sans décalques.

Donc, il va y avoir un sacré boulot.....

Alors, pour patienter, voici le dernier (normalement....) Grumman F-14 Tomcat, destiné à un projet qui, j'espère, vous plaira....

So, to be precise : yes, I bought (yet another) new Tomcat from the same manufacturer, this time with folded wings... and I'm in the process of selling the one I bought in 2016...

So, why this change ?

Because I have a project that I hope to complete by the end of the year.

Just as much time, because I have to cast in metal another plane that I only found in 3D printing, but without decals.

So, it's going to be a lot of work...

So, while I'm waiting, here's the last (normally...) Grumman F-14 Tomcat, intended for a project that I hope you'll like...

1/144 Savoia Marchetti SM.79

Dans la frénésie de mes débuts de collectionneur, j'avais acheté un second SM.79 Sparviero réalisé par Atlas ou De Agostini, en le réservant pour une livrée autre qu'italienne.

Après recherches, j'ai retenu la livrée différente des avions de la force aérienne libanaise après guerre, qui comprenait 4 SM. 79, numérotés L-111, L-112, L-113 et L.114 (le L.113 est exposé dans cette livrée au Musée Caproni à Trente, Italie, que j'ai visité en particulier pour cet avion [voir ici], alors que l'autre survivant est exposé dans une livrée classique de la Regia Aeronautica au Museo Dell’Aeronautica Militare de Vigna di Valle [voir là]).

In the frenzy of my early days as a collector, I had bought a second SM.79 Sparviero made by Atlas or De Agostini, reserving it for a livery other than Italian.

After some research, I noticed the different livery of the Lebanese Air Force aircraft after war, which included 4 SM. 79s, numbered L-111, L-112, L.113 and L-114 (the L.113 is displayed in this livery at the Caproni Museum in Trento, Italy, which I visited especially for this aircraft [see here], while the other survivor is displayed in a classic Regia Aeronautica livery at the museum at the Museo Dell’Aeronautica Militare inVigna di Valle (see there)).

J'ai donc décapé le modèle Atlas, modifié le poste de tir dorsal supprimé sur les avions libanais, repeint, puis j'ai commencé à poser les décalques des chiffres des ailes.

Puis, je l'ai laissé dans cet état, réfléchissant à comment faire les bandes noires qui courent sur le fuselage, notamment celle plus fine qui double celle épaisse.

Et ça s'est arrêté là pendant quelques années. Même plus.....

Mais j'ai continué à réfléchir...😀

Jusqu'à ces derniers jours où, en faisant une ultime recherche, je suis tombé par hasard sur une planche de décalques pour cet avion, avec les fameuses (et difficiles à faire comme ça) bandes de fuselage.

Et le pire de l'histoire est que cette planche de décalques, au 1/144, pour cet avion spécifique, est vendue par Arctic Decals, chez qui j'ai eu plusieurs fois l'occasion d'acheter des planches, comme pour le Percival Q6 Petrel ou le De Havilland Dragon Rapide.....

Je dois vieillir.....

Et donc après de nombreuses années, voici enfin terminé ce modèle de Sm.79 Sparviero aux couleurs de la force aérienne libanaise....

So I stripped the Atlas model, modified the dorsal gunnery position (which was removed from Lebanese aircraft), repainted it, and then began applying the wing number decals.

Then, I left it in this state, thinking about how to make the black bands that run on the fuselage, in particular the thinner one which doubles the thick one.

And it stopped there for a few years. Even more....

But I kept thinking....😀

Until the last few days when, while doing a final search, I stumbled upon a sheet of decals for this plane, with the famous (and difficult to do like that) fuselage stripes.

And the worst part of the story is that this decal sheet, at 1/144, for this specific aircraft, is sold by Arctic Decals, from whom I have had the opportunity to buy sheets several times, such as for the Percival Q6 Petrel or the De Havilland Dragon Rapide.....

I must be getting old.....

And so after many years, here is finally finished this model of Sm.79 Sparviero in the colors of the Lebanese Air Force....

1/144 Avro 707A

Contrairement à son nom, l'Avro 707A est le 3e prototype (le premier s'étant écrasé) d'une série d'avions à l'échelle 1/3 du Vulcan et destinés à tester le comportement à différentes vitesses des ailes delta sans empennage horizontal choisies pour ce bombardier. 

Après le crash du premier prototype, le 707B est construit avec un fuselage légèrement allongé, un train d’atterrissage avant plus haut, une flèche à 51° des ailes et un cockpit protégé par un carénage métallique.

Contrary to its name, the Avro 707A was the third prototype (the first having crashed) in a series of 1/3 scale Vulcan aircraft designed to test the performance at various speeds of the delta wings without horizontal tails chosen for this bomber.

After the crash of the first prototype, the 707B was built with a slightly lengthened fuselage, higher nose landing gear, a 51° wing sweep and a cockpit protected by a metal fairing.

Après avoir constaté qu'avec l'augmentation de la vitesse, des turbulences empêchent une bonne alimentation des réacteurs par l’entrée d’air dorsale des 707 et 707B, un 3e prototype a été construit, le 707A avec des entrées d'air repositionnées à l'emplanture des ailes (puis plus tard modifié avec la forme des ailes finalement retenue pour les Vulcan, les "Kinked Wing").

After discovering that with increasing speed, turbulence prevented proper fueling of the engines through the dorsal air intakes of the 707 and 707B, a third prototype was built, the 707A, with air intakes repositioned at the wing roots (later modified to the wing shape ultimately adopted for the Vulcans, the "Kinked Wing").

Le premier 707A WD280 (un second 707A ayant été construit, le WZ736) a effectué son premier vol en 1951 au Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) de Boscombe Down puis à l'issue de ses tests a été transporté en 1956 en Australie, pour être utilisé par l’Australian Aeronautical Research Council (AARC) jusqu’en 1967.

Il y a quelques années, j'ai donc acheté le 707A WD280 (version kinked wing) produit en kit par le fabricant 144th.co.uk (qui a également produit deux autres versions), puis après avoir réalisé un moule, je l'ai coulé en métal.

Le montage s'est déroulé sans difficultés, et j'ai choisi finalement la livrée portée par cet avion lorsqu'il était à l’Australian Aeronautical Research Council (AARC).

The first 707A WD280 (a second 707A having been built, as WZ736) made its first flight in 1951 at the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) at Boscombe Down and after its tests was transported in 1956 to Australia, to be used by the Australian Aeronautical Research Council (AARC) until 1967.

So, a few years ago, I purchased the 707A WD280 (kinked wing version) produced as a kit from the manufacturer 144th.co.uk (which also produced two other versions), and after making a mold, I cast it in metal.

The assembly went smoothly, and I ultimately chose the livery worn by this aircraft when it was at the Australian Aeronautical Research Council (AARC).

1/144 De Havilland DH.89 "Dragon Rapide"

Dans les années 30, l'avionneur De Havilland a développé partir du DH.84 Dragon, les DH.86, quadrimoteur, et le DH.89, bimoteur court courrier d'une capacité de 6 à 8 passagers, qui a connu un certain succès dans sa version civile, Dragon Rapide, comme dans la version militaire dénommée Dominie.

Le modèle a été coulé en métal à partir du kit du fabricant Air-Craft Models (ou de son prédécesseur Aeroclub puisque j'ai coulé le modèle en 2015....) et dont le seul problème de montage a été pour les mats (en photo-découpe) que j'ai fait l'erreur de placer après avoir fixé l'aile supérieure sur le fuselage, imaginant que ça serait plus facile.....

Pour la livrée, j'ai choisi celle du fabricant Arctic Decals qui propose notamment celle de Railway Air Services, une compagnie aérienne créée par quatre sociétés ferroviaires et Imperial Airways pour compléter les dessertes éloignées comme la ligne la plus importante qui était entre Londres et l'Écosse (Londres-Birmingham-Manchester/Liverpool-Belfast-Glasgow).

In the 1930s, the aircraft manufacturer De Havilland developed the DH.84 Dragon into the four-engine DH.86 and the short-haul twin-engine DH.89 with a capacity of 6 to 8 passengers the DH.89, which enjoyed some success in its civilian version, Dragon Rapide, as well as the military version called Dominie.

The model was cast in metal from the kit of the manufacturer Air-Craft Models (or its predecessor Aeroclub since I cast the model in 2015....) and whose only assembly problem was for the struts (in photo-etched) that I made the mistake of placing after having fixed the upper wing on the fuselage, imagining that it would be easier.....

For the livery, I chose that of the manufacturer Arctic Decals which notably offers that of Railway Air Services, an airline created by four railway companies and Imperial Airways to supplement distant services such as the most important line between London and Scotland (London-Birmingham-Manchester/Liverpool-Belfast-Glasgow).

1/144 Heinkel He 70 "Blitz" - Part 2

Voici donc la suite (et fin) de la présentation de ce Heinkel He 70.

Si la plus grosse difficulté a été le montage des trains d'atterrissage qu'il a fallu créer de toutes pièces, la peinture d'ensemble, la pose des décalques et la peinture noire à poser après, n'ont pas posé de problème.

Voici donc le Heinkel He 70 dénommé "Sperber", ce qui signifie Epervier, aux couleurs de la Lufthansa.

Here is the continuation (and end) of the presentation of this Heinkel He 70.

While the biggest challenge was assembling the landing gear, which had to be created from scratch, the overall painting, the application of the decals, and the subsequent black paint job were no problem.

So here is the Heinkel He 70 called "Sperber", which means Sparrowhawk, in the colors of Lufthansa.
