1/144 Albatros W.4

Il y a quelques années, j'ai acheté sur Shapeways deux modèles créés en impression 3D, en métal, un hydravion Albatros W.4 et un chasseur biplace Vickers FB.5 Gunbus.
A l'époque, je m'interrogeais sur le fait de savoir si un ponçage permettrait de supprimer l'effet "granuleux" du modèle, que l'on voit bien sur les photos ci-dessous.

A few years ago, I bought at Shapeways two models created in 3D printing, made in metal, an Albatros W.4 seaplane and a Vickers FB.5 Gunbus two-seater fighter.
At the time, I wondered about whether sanding would remove the "grainy" effect of the model, which we see well in the pictures below.

J'ai eu la réponse en faisant le Horten Ho 229 (autre modèle en impression 3D métal que j'ai acheté puis décoré), où je me suis rendu compte que la fabrication additive en métal donne un résultat particulièrement dur, pratiquement impossible à poncer ou à percer (au moins avec les outils dont je dispose).
Mais si le Horten était d'un autre type de fabrication et relativement poli, il n'en est pas de même de l'Albatros W.4 et du Vickers FB.5, lesquels présentent un effet granuleux très important.

I got the answer by doing the Horten Ho 229 (another model in 3D metal printing that I bought and decorated), where I realized that metal additive manufacturing gives a particularly hard result, almost impossible to sand or drill (at least with the tools I have).
But if the Horten was of another type of manufacture and relatively polished, it is not the same of Albatros W.4 and Vickers FB.5, which present a very important granular effect.

La seule solution pour remédier à ce problème a donc été l'utilisation massive de mastic.
Puis, de peinture.
Et après tout ce boulot, voici un hydravion Albatros W.4, d'impression 3D en métal au 1/144, représentant le 3ème prototype avec les flotteurs modifiés des avions de série.

The only solution to this problem was the massive use of putty.
Then, of paint.
And after all this work, here is an Albatros W.4 seaplane, 3D metal printing, representing the 3rd prototype with the modified floats of the series aircraft.
