1/144 Short Solent - by ???

Pour chaque voyage important, j'essaie de rapporter un avion représentatif du pays dans lequel je suis allé.
Exemple : Hong Kong et le DC3 de Cathay Pacific (voir ici) et le Japon avec l'Airbus A320 de All Nippon Airways (voir là).

Pour la Nouvelle Zélande, j'ai du effectuer de nombreuses recherches pour finalement trouver sur un site internet, parmi du vin, un certain nombre de "goodies" avec le logo d'Air New Zealand.

Et parmi ces goodies, il y avait....,
Il y avait..., un modèle au 1/144, qui n'était pas en métal...,
Il y avait..., un modèle au 1/144 en résine ou bois...,
Il y avait..., un modèle au 1/144 de Short Solent, hydravion à usage civil extrapolé du Short Sunderland à la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale...,
Il y avait..., un modèle au 1/144 de Short Solent aux couleurs de la TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Limited), prédécesseur de la Compagnie Air New Zealand.

Et le plus intéressant de l'histoire, c'est que j'ai pu voir le vrai, en cours de rénovation, lors de la visite que j'ai pu faire des réserves et ateliers du MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) d'Auckland (voir ici).


For each important trip, I try to bring back a representative plane of the country in which I went.
Example: Hong Kong and the Cathay Pacific DC3 (see here) and Japan with the All Nippon Airways Airbus A320 (see here).

For New Zealand, I had to do a lot of research to finally find on a website, among wine, a number of goodies with the logo of Air New Zealand.

There was..., a 1/144 model, which was not made of metal...,
There was..., a model 1/144 resin or wood....,
There was..., a 1/144 model of Short Solent, civilian flying boat extrapolated from the Short Sunderland at the end of the Second World War...,
There was..., a 1/144 model of Short Solent in the colors of TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Limited), predecessor of the Air New Zealand Company.

And the most interesting part of the story is that I was able to see the real, undergoing renovation, during the visit that I was able to make reserves and workshops of MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) in Auckland (see here).

Dernier message sur les musées de Nouvelle Zélande et sur les participations de Peter Jackson dans certains d'entre eux.

Comme expliqué précédemment, Peter Jackson est passionné de la première guerre mondiale, et en particulier d'aviation : il a créé Wingnut Wings, fabricant de maquettes d'avions du premier conflit mondial au 1/32, et possède une collection d'avions (des vrais) de cette période, qui sont présentés dans le Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre.

Quand je dis qu'ils sont présentés, c'est peu dire...


Last message about museums in New Zealand and Peter Jackson's participation in some of them.

As explained previously, Peter Jackson is passionate about the First World War, and in particular aviation: he created Wingnut Wings, manufacturer of aircraft models of the First World War at 1:32, and has a collection of aircraft (real one) of this period, which are featured in the Omaka Aviation Heritage Center.

When I say that they are presented, to say the least...

Une petite explication sur cette scène : son avion étant ingouvernable, le pilote se place sur l'aile pour essayer de sauter. Il se rend alors compte qu'en bougeant, il peut diriger son avion, ce qu'il fait jusqu'aux lignes alliées.

A small explanation on this scene: his plane being ungovernable, the pilot is on the wing to try to jump. He then realizes that by moving, he can steer his plane, which he does to the allied lines.

A l'entrée de la partie du musée dédiée à la seconde guerre mondiale, on trouve un Hawker Hurricane présenté à l'envers, avec la verrière plus loin.

At the entrance of the part of the museum dedicated to the Second World War, there is a Hawker Hurricane presented upside down, with the canopy further.

Cela raconte l'histoire, pendant la Bataille d'Angleterre, d'un pilote néo-zélandais qui saute en parachute de son avion en flammes, et se pose sur une propriété privée, où se déroule une soirée.
Il a pu participer à la fin de la soirée après avoir été soigné de quelques blessures légères par une femme docteur, qui était aussi présente.
Mais surtout, il a été étonné, quelques temps plus tard, de recevoir une facture pour les soins qu'il avait reçus...

It tells the story, during the Battle of Britain, of a New Zealand pilot parachuting his flaming plane and landed on private property, where a party is held.
He was able to participate at the end of the party after being treated for some minor injuries by a female doctor, who was also present.
But above all, he was surprised, a few times later, to receive an invoice for the care he had received...

Ah ça, c'est déjà plus difficile.
C'est une entreprise, dont Peter Jackson est un des fondateurs, qui est spécialisée dans les effets spéciaux : costumes, armures, armes, créatures et maquettes de toute taille, pour la Trilogie du Seigneur des Anneaux, le Hobbit, mais bien d'autres comme Le monde de Narnia, Master and Commander, et plein d'autres.

Eh bien, ce que l'on sait moins, c'est que Peter Jackson est passionné par la 1ère guerre mondiale.
Il avait une collection d'avions de cette époque, il a créé Wingnut Wings, le fabricant de maquettes de la première guerre mondiale à l'échelle 1/32.

Et alors ?
Et bien, il a créé, et véritablement mis en scène l'exposition sur la guerre de 14-18 ainsi que de la bataille de Gallipoli (terriblement importante pour les néo-zélandais et les australiens) au sein du Great War Exhibition Museum de Wellington.

C'est quelque chose d'impressionnant, en particulier la partie sur Gallipoli, avec notamment un diorama immense (et donc impossible à photographier) sur les combats de la péninsule.

Well, what is less known is that Peter Jackson is passionate about World War I.
He had a collection of airplanes from that time, he created Wingnut Wings, the manufacturer of scale models of the First World War at the scale 1/32.

So what ?
Well, he created, and truly staged, the 14-18 war exhibition and the Battle of Gallipoli (terribly important for New Zealanders and Australians) at Wellington's Great War Exhibition Museum.

This is something impressive, especially the part about Gallipoli, including a huge diorama (and therefore impossible to photograph) on the fights of the peninsula.

J'ai eu de la chance, car deux jours avant ma visite, une nouvelle exposition a été créée par Peter Jackson, une sorte de trench experience de Gallipoli interactive.
C'est tellement impressionnant (l'odeur, le bruit, etc) que l'on est content d'en sortir et que j'ai même oublié de faire la moindre photo...

I was lucky, because two days before my visit, a new exhibition was created by Peter Jackson, a kind of Gallipoli trench interactive experience.
It is so impressive (the smell, the noise, etc.) that one is happy to leave and that I even forgot to make any photo...

L'autre exposition à laquelle a participé Weta Workshop se tient au Te Papa Museum, aussi à Wellington, et porte exclusivement sur Gallipoli.

Il s'agit de statues d'environ 3 mètres de haut (voir une des photos ci-dessous avec un visiteur dans l'ombre) représentant diverses scènes de la campagne de Gallipoli.
Chaque statue est présenté dans une pièce séparée, avec son propre texte et sa propre musique.
Ces statues sont impressionnantes réalisme : on y voit chaque cheveu, chaque ride, chaque goutte de sueur ou de larme (voir l'infirmière).

Un sacré choc.


The other exhibition attended by Weta Workshop is held at the Te Papa Museum, also in Wellington, and focuses exclusively on Gallipoli.

These are statues about 3 meters high (see one of the photos below with a visitor in the shadows) representing various scenes of the Gallipoli campaign.
Each statue is presented in a separate room, with its own text and music.
These statues are impressive realism: we see every hair, every wrinkle, every drop of sweat or tear (see the nurse).

A shock.
