Savoia S.21 - Part 2

Comme indiqué dans le précédent message (voir ici), cela fait quelques années que j'ai acheté ce kit de l'avion (ou plutôt de l'hydravion) de Porco Rosso.
Et cela fait aussi quelques années que je l'ai commencé, puis laissé, puis recommencé, jusqu'à ces dernières semaines, où j'ai décidé de prendre le temps nécessaire pour le finir.
Il faut dire que c'est mon premier modèle avec de la photo-découpe....

Petite précision sur le kit : il est annoncé comme étant un Savoia S.21 alors que la configuration du moteur démontre que c'est un S.21F, mais il manque la place passager à l'avant....
Allez comprendre...!
Quant à l'échelle, il n'est pas au 1/144 (ce qui est difficile à apprécier car c'est quand même un avion fictif...) mais il en est très proche, si on se réfère au poste de pilotage.... C'est peu, mais c'est le seul élement de référence que j'ai trouvé.

En ce qui concerne le montage, j'ai apporté seulement deux modifications :
- je n'ai pas utilisé les vis fournies pour fixer le réservoir et le support du moteur. J'ai préféré coller et masquer au mastic l'emplacement de la vis.
- j'ai décidé de peindre les parties en métal (coque, flotteurs, support de moteur...) en "rouge italien" pour être plus près de l'avion de Porco Rosso.... (et de certaines voitures italiennes...).


As indicated in the previous message (see here), it's been a few years since I bought this kit of the Porco Rosso's plane (or rather of the seaplane).
And it's also been a few years since I started it, then left it, then started again, until these last weeks, when I decided to take the necessary time to finish it.
I must say that this is my first model with photo-etched....

Small precision about the kit : it is announced as being a Savoia S.21 while the configuration of the engine shows that it is an S.21F, but it misses the passenger seat at the front....
Go figure ...!
As for the scale, it is not at 1/144 (which is difficult to appreciate because it is still a fictitious plane ...) but it is very close, if we refer to the cockpit .... It is not much, but it is the only element of reference that I found.

Regarding the assembly, I made only two modifications :
- I did not use the screws provided to fix the tank and the engine support. I preferred to stick and mask with putty the location of the screw.
- I decided to paint the metal parts (hull, floats, engine support ...) in "Italian red" to be closer to the plane of Porco Rosso....(and some Italian cars...).

J'ai déjà eu l'occasion de vous parler de Hayao Miyazaki, créateur des Studios Ghibli, à propos du Mitsubishi Ka-14, ancêtre du Mitsubishi A5M "Claude", tous deux présentés dans le film d'animation "Le vent se lève" (voir ici).

Dans ce précédent message, j'ai aussi eu l'occasion de vous parler de Porco Rosso, l'autre film de Miyazaki consacré à l'aviation, et de vous présenter le Macchi M.33 créé par F-Toys avec une livrée rouge.

Mais ce Macchi M.33 (qui a bien existé) n'est pas l'avion de Porco Rosso.
Son véritable avion est le S.21 (S pour Savoia).

But this Macchi M.33 (which did exist) is not Porco Rosso's plane.
His real aircraft is S.21 (S for Savoia).

Il n'est pas purement fantaisiste mais c'est un savant mélange entre le Macchi M.33 et le SIAI S.21.

It is not purely fanciful but it is a clever mix between the Macchi M.33 and the SIAI S.21.

Et vous croyez que les films d'animation c'est simplement du dessin animé...?
Parce que même pour un avion qui n'existe pas, le créateur de Porco Rosso, Hayao Miyazaki, nous a vraiment gâté....
En effet, il y a deux avions ou tout au moins, DEUX versions : le S.21 de début de film et le S.21 F, après les réparations par Fio, la petite fille de Piccolo, le fabricant d'avion de Porco Rosso.
On reconnaît le S.21F à l'absence de radiateurs (?) sur les côtés du moteur et à une place de passager à l'avant.

Because even for a plane that does not exist, the creator of Porco Rosso, Hayao Miyazaki, has really pampered us...
Indeed, there are two planes or at least TWO versions : the S.21 at the beginning of the movie and the S.21F, after the repairs by Fio, the granddaughter of Piccolo, the airplane manufacturer of Porco Rosso.
The S.21F is recognized by the absence of radiators (?) on the sides of the engine and by a passenger seat in the front.

Bon, vous l'avez compris, je suis un fan de Porco Rosso.....
Alors, lors d'une visite au Ghibli Museum à Mitaka, dans la banlieue de Tokyo, lorsque j'ai vu un kit en métal et photo-découpe du Savoia S.21, je n'ai pas réfléchi....
Et en plus, le modèle de présentation donnait l'impression d'être au 1/144 ou alors, à une échelle très proche....

Le modèle comprend des pièces en white métal, de la photo-découpe, quelques vis pour fixer certaines pièces et le support de l'avion ainsi qu'une boite de présentation transparente avec une représentation de paysage.

The model includes parts in white metal, photo-etched, some screws to fix certain parts and the support of the plane as well as a transparent presentation box with a representation of landscape.
